Cruising foot-rests

Featured Replies

Just wondered if anyone had bought or made any cruising foot rests?

I have an old NV400 Honda, which is half way between a sports bike and a cruiser and during long journeys it would be nice to stretch my legs, by having additional footrests forward of the existing one.

I won't have the controls transferred, as I think in traffic and around town the existing positions are better and I can move my feet from one set to the other, to avoid cramp setting in. The bike has overdrive and I ride at quite low speed, so this would add to the low rpm comfort.

Perhaps there is something available that would clamp on to the frame at the front, any ideas would be most welcome.

Does the frame have double front down tubes ?

Yes, see picture, I guess it will mean welding some tags to the frame, unless there is some clamping device which fits most bikes.

What I have done in the past is get a piece of square tube and use u- bolts around the tube and the frame rails, one on each side. This will give you height adjustability.

Cut to length and put some foot pegs on the end.

Be careful that you do not make it too long, and hinge the foot pegs so they fold up.

Made many sets for my HD's over the years.

As per the pic, you will have to make some offsets to clear the rad I.e. have the square bar be ahead of the rad.

Or place behind rad if you have room and not too close.

When I was a nipper (young fellow) my dad had inherited one of these (pix) and my brothers and I had great fun turning iron rods to make bike bits. Probably still state of the art in LOS!

It just twists them.....mmmm. Plus you don't get much wrought iron any more, so what sort of bike bits did you make?

Foot pegs and sissy bars seemed to be most popular. It was all basic stuff and average quality. But we had a lot of fun and through trial and error we learnt a lot. It was good having a dad that was always buying bikes and parts as the shed was well stocked with bits and pieces....and lots of tools!
