Heathrow plane in near miss with drone

An unidentified drone came close to hitting a plane as it landed at Heathrow, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has confirmed.

An Airbus A320 pilot reported seeing a helicopter-style drone as the jet was 700 feet off the ground on its approach to the runway at 1416 GMT on 22 July.

I think a few more of these and drones are history.

I mentioned a scenario like this before in another thread.

In the wrong hands it's danger big time, it's about time they utilize RF jammers.

wouldnt the RF jammers open a bigger can of worms?

i read a story about a guy that had a gps jammer and every time he past the airport they had to shut it down

here it is

This is my part of my point, all the money that got spend to land a billion dollar vehicle on a flying comet yet an immediate danger to civilians on our own planet gets ignored.

I could go out tomorrow and probably down a plane at my local airport, add to that some explosives and well the plane is down with 300+ people onboard dead.

Easy pickings for a terrorist (which for the record I am not) if the Aviation Authorities don't have a defence other than armed police based on the opposite side of the airfield, then soon we are all feckt when the 5h17 hits the fan/turbine.

Scary times.

Unfortunately this is bound to happen, with progress in the technology multicopters are so easy to buy and fly that even an idiot can use one, the problem with that being self evident.

There are some possible solutions to that, personally I'd ban the unrestricted sale of ready to fly drones over a certain size, if someone wants something bigger they should go through a licensing process to prove that they know how to operate them safely first.
