Statutory declarations of income being bounced back.

The embassy letter not being enough proof is because you can swear your santa claus and they stamp it ok at the US embassy without checking. Can't blame the Thais for not accepting that.

But your right this is one of the few times I have ever read about it.

What the US Embassy Notary Affidavit would say is that Kuhn Robblok appeared before me on this day and swore under penalty of perjury that he is Santa Claus and that "The U. S. Embassy does not guarantee the contents of my own sworn statement."

Merry Christmas.... hooo hooo hooo

But what I am saying is its open for abuse because its highly unlikely that people will get in trouble if they swear to something they don't have. The Thai immigration would just not accept it I doubt they would make a case and send it to the US embassy.

That severely d evaluates the value of the document, so that is why I can understand if more proof is asked for.

But as i stated before that almost never happens. (asking for more proof)

It is US State Department policy anywhere in the world that an embassy/consulate will not verify the authenticity of any document submitted to them even it if has been issued by the US Government itself.

if the immigration ask for proof of your income and you can not supply it, what do you think immigration will do? tell you to have it next year. more likely they deport you for lying to them. I would also think you wish you were Santa Claus after the US government was finished with you. this is unlikely to happen but it could

You are correct "Ubon Joe" and in the case of an Aussie declaration it is often taken on the honesty of the applicant, without further proof being required. In Phitsanulok the Immo officer insisted on keeping my original 'Declaration' saying that it was a directive from their Chiangmai office?? I objected an stated that it is normal practice for them to veiw the original document and simply keep a photo-copy, plus I also had copies of my Bank and Pension statements. Very inconsiderate, as I will have to waste several days to get a new declaration from the Bangkok Embassy; - Was this 'Juniour Ossifer' being an 'Ass---e' by exerting what little authority he had, as he absolutely refused to process my visa extension without keeping the original "income declaration"?

I thought it was standard procedure for them to keep the original Declaration?

I completed my first visa extension for retirement today at CW. I neglected to take a photocopy of the main page of my bankbook, so the IO did one for me using the photocopier under her desk! Lovely lady, we had a nice conversation in Thai, the supervisor then scrutinised the documents, including my Declaration (no questions asked)....in and out in 10 minutes and a happy chappy wai.gif

Oh, I almost forgot. Thank you for all the help from Ubonjoe and Co. here on ThaiVisa, I don't think I could have done it without your valued advice and assistance.

Cheers!

on my last extension in October they kept it but all previous ones they did not. as the declaration is only good for immigration it does not effect me if they keep it or return it.

"They made me come back again and again

asking for additional 'new' documents culminating in my morning wasted at immigration on Xmas day while my kids and nieces sat at home, by the tree to waiting to open their presents."

Your kids and nieces were probably wondering why you didn't plan better.

In fact mate, I bought everything that the "officer" asked for each and every time. And each time I came back with the docs that they asked for (precisely) they asked for something else. I also asked my friend who went through the process the previous year prior to the application, in addition to calling immigration and asking them exactly what was required.

That clear enough for you or do I need to write it in crayon for you?

I find the banking security procedures more secure in Thailand than some western countries...sometimes to the point of annoyance...like joint accounts can only get a single ATM card. I have had millions of baht in multiple Thai bank accounts for years and never lost a satang

.

Actually many people have been royally screwed by Thai bank "security" and the bank never took responsibility even when withdrawals where fraudulent made from withing the bank.

I would certainly advise for anyone having trouble with their income declarations to just put a few million in a Thai bank and be done with it.

Small detail, not everybody has millions.

I beg to differ...most screwed themselves...not enabling SMS security services, giving out passwords to friends and girlfriends/boyfriends, using dodgy ATMs, etc.

I'll stand by my 15 years of experience using Thai banks without any problems.

If someone doesn't have a few (or many) millions of baht equivalent to deposit in a local bank what is one doing living overseas?

You are something special aren't you,not every one is born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth or had the luck of being smart and had the opportunity in life to accumulate or earn Millions of Baht to show of like you. There are quite a few retired people who find it difficult to live in their own country on their meagre pension but can have a better lifestyle here in Thailand if the prefer the climate and the people, some say that it is a permanent holiday compared to the miserable life in their own country !

Don't judge people ,don't make spoilt childish comments !

On the 28th of October I went to the US embassy and swore that I was Santa Claus. On the 29th I went to my immigration office to do my 1 year extension and they kept the original letter as they always do. They accepted the letter and I didn't have to bring "Rudolf" in to verify that I was Santa Claus even though he was in the parking lot!

Now if I were a Brit, I could have sent the Embassy a letter from the "North Pole Pension Service" and they would issue the verification letter to me. I doubt that they would contact the "North Pole Pension Service" to verify the contents of the letter that I sent. In addition they would charge me more for supposedly verifying the document and charge me 2620 baht for the service, about 1000 baht more than the US Embassy charges - for what!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I've seen first hand the results (and have had to spread the ashes) of these meagre pensioner types in Thailand when they have a medical emergency or other health problem or some unexpected financial expense. Believe me, it's not pretty. Yes, it's all fine and dandy if one is in relatively good health but to not have any financial cushion should be a concern to meagre expatriates. Not only do they become a burden to their local friends and family (if any) but often also to the Thai State and the taxpayers.

Having saved up US$ 30,000 by retirement hardly makes one a member of the one-percent.
