Vans to Pattaya

Recommended Posts

I'm commuting between Bangkok and Pattaya regularly. Leaving back to Pattaya usually on a Friday afternoon after work.

Coming from Huay Kwang, what is the most recommendable van service to Pattaya?

I'm with Scott, whom you met a few weeks ago at a party. He's recommending you take bus 12 over to Victory Monument. The minivans from there are 90B. One place is right next to Saxophones. But there is another location to catch minivans there also.

Ok, took the van today and happy to live to tell the story.

In short : never ever again!

Had my bag, get yelled at to put it under the seat, doesn't fit, get yelled at to sit here and not there, get yelled at to put my bag on my lap... Give the driver another 100 Baht to shut up and sit where I want. But even the luxury having two seats is a far cry from a comfortable ride, the van is built for people of max 160 cm, I'm slightly taller than that.

The driver trying to be as close to the cars in front of us as possible nailed it. We had one near miss when the lights turned red and the car in front of us decided to stop. He must have looked in his mirror as he suddenly sped up, crossed the red light, us in hot pursuit. If he had indeed stopped there was no way we would have avoided a crash.

Never ever again.

The other location is next to the Century Mall a couple of hundred meters south of VM on Phaya Thai Road. I am pretty sure there are minivans from there to Pattaya.

That's were I got the van.

Having a car in Bangkok is a total waste of time and money. I stay in a small hotel in walking distance to the office and an MRT station. Leave the hotel at 8 and have still ample time for a coffee before work. For a drink in town it's a 22 Baht ride of ten minutes to get to asoke.

The only thing to sort out is the commute back to Pattaya.

Monday mornings I get picked up by a private taxi, costs 1500 Baht and I can continue my sleep on the backseat of his Camry . I could use this service also for the commute back to Pattaya but my keeniau-ness forbids such financial extravaganzas.

Will try the bus from morchit next week and report back.

Sounds like my first and only trip on a minibus. The driver, a Muslim, was obviously high on Yabah and had the cheek to look at me with contempt and ask if I was drunk when I supped a can of beer before it got warm. One near miss? You weren't looking closely. I'm a driver now and have learnt to keep away from these suicidal madmen.

Bus from Ekamai bus station leaves every 30 minutes to Pattaya. Ok buses with reclining seats and aircon. 124 baht one way.

I think it's even every 20 minutes. But anyways, Morchit is closer to my office. The bus is 136 Baht and also very frequent.

rara, I would go from Ekamai rather than Mo Chit, Ekamai is 1 or 2 minute walk from the BTS. Mo Chit is somewhat further meaning taking a motorbike taxi, bus or a dreaded van to get to the station. What you lose on the BTS you easy make up for in hanging around trying to get to the station..

P.s. the bus ride is a lot quicker from Ekamai too, I seem to recall it being 20 to 30 minutes quicker.

The problem is, from Huay Kwang you need to take the MRT first, then the asoke interchange. On a Friday afternoon rush hour both train systems are jam packed and it's tough enough to get in without luggage. This makes the morchit option by taxi more attractive. Still, will try both and report back.

For the records, transit time with the van door to door was exactly four hours, leaving the office at 5 pm.
