Nakhon Phanom : Are there any farang living there?

Hello Viewers!

I may possibly have a project for a few weeks up in Nakhon Phanom. I was wondering if there are any of our " Thai Visa Viewers " that live in that part of Thailand that could quite simply describe what kind of place it is and what it offers ? For example :

1. Are there many farang living there?

2. What are the national parks like?

3. Nice places to photograph?

4. Any bars or farang bars ( not my scene but just wondered...)

5. Whats the weather like during the seasons? Hot,Cold,Rain etc.

6. Property rental prices - Any nice places from 2,000 to 2,500 per month ?

7. Travelling through the City - Do they use baht buses?

8. Nice Temples ?

9. Buses - I know it has no Train Station but are there plenty of Buses?

Any kind of information would be great!

Many Thanks,

Farang Jaidee wai2.gif

It has an airport. It is on the Mekong, and on the north side of the province where the Mekong turns west, there are lovely views across the river to Laos.

Dear Viewer.

Thankyou for your kind input! i am aware of the above information and i know there is an Airport ( Nok air fly there daily i believe.) But i was looking for more detail from someone that perhaps lives there.I want to try and " get a feel about the place " in advance....

Thankyou. F.J

I live in BFE Isan and have never cared if there are expats here. There is one about 1 km away but I haven't seen him for about a year.

Oh yes I totally agree I didn't come to Thailand to be amongst " expat farangs " ( its enough with all the bickering on Thai Visa ) I am just trying to work out what kind of place it is.The less farang the better!!!

I live in Mukdahan so have but only have been to NP once, but was very enjoyable. It is not built up like many cities on the Mekong so much natural beauty remains visible. I would say not busy....and quaint. Ho Chi Min home not too far away if you like that sort of thing. Vietnamese breakfast on the street was really good and fun. Some pretty good restaurants. Didn't see any farangs, but didn't go to grocery store.

Wonderful views across the Mekong. For transport within the city, you're pretty much stuck with samlors as far as I can tell.

Nice riverside boardwalk, great for running. And, not a terrible town for biking, either

Thankyou for your kind input! 450 Baht is ridiculously expensive for Thailand! I have travelled all over Thailand in towns and Cities and apart from Bangkok & Hua Hin i have always found basic ( but clean ) Thai hotels for around 200 baht per night inc private bathroom and towels etc. ( fan rooms )
