Never ceases to amaze me how out of touch with reality so many people are.

Two minutes of this depressing crap here and there was all I could stomach. After all he experienced, the village idiot still says, "I'll be back," to the other village idiots swilling beer like it was water.

That is really quite depressing. I couldnt watch all of it...that bloke is in his early forties????? He looks more like he is in his mid fifties! The classic line about "all these nubile women that really want to be with you".....said as he is sitting a hooker bar. How deluded can some people get? This is not the same Thailand that I live in, thank god for that!

I saw this doc sometime back. It's a complete tool shed, especially with the bloke talking about how his wife says she doesn't love him, but he thinks she does.

I suppose the word denial is a suitable one.

I went to my local immigration office on Friday to extend my NON O visa. Sitting in there was a grumpy old british fart and his wife. He was getting more and more frustrated and his voice growing louder by the minute. It was really quite comical, yet embarrassing at the same time. I was the only other farang in there and I could feel him looking at me, trying to get me involved in his frustrations. I didnt take the bait. Finally as I was sitting with the mrs chatting with the immigration lady he came up and handed his passport to her......he looked directly at me, and out of the blue says "no wonder the place is deforested"....... I think referring to all the paperwork he had to do. I still didnt take the bait and he gave up. His moaning and raised voice caused quite a stir. The immigration lady looked at me and asked me in Thai "are you going to be like that' "No", says I...

I came here to get away from people like that. There are some pretty cool western people here ,but a lot just dont seem to get it. They complain about people from other countries coming to theirs and not assimilating....and yet they just make complete tools of themselves here.... God I love living here, its a laugh a minute!

Yes, a XXXXXX of a female no doubt (and no mate, she is not ‘beautiful’ by any stretch) but you have to ask yourself why, when you cannot get a woman in the UK, would they go with you here? And then you let her control all your finances like your mother used to when you were an infant. WHY!

Incidentally, there seems to be an inordinate number of 'Tip's' than run off with a farang's money.

Thailand is full of 30 + year old decent women, with jobs, a brain and decent moral standards. All a man has to do is learn decent Thai, learn how to behave in Thai culture not act like a total knob end.....but that just seems way to hard for some people to do. If you really are down on your luck with the women you need to pick yourself up by the boot straps and work on yourself. Unfortunately that does mean some work on language skills etc if you are planning on giving it a go here. If not, well....you could end up with a hooker that speaks baby English to you all day long. What a sad state of affairs considering the amount of Thai women that would be considered attractive to many back home....available, yet unobtainable to lager louts that cannot think with their big head. As a man in my early 40's, I am more than happy to stick with women my own age, women that have a brain,maybe even have their own condos...cars...whatever! Its not that hard to do if you make the effort to learn the lingo, learn what behaviours are expected and try not to be a total dick! Just like what you would expect people to do when they come to your country really.....

Thus 'Her' story is lost to the majority of the audience.

David, you didn't miss much although The American clown late on in the documentary is even funnier, when he is talking about his wife. The look on her face is one of total contempt.

I still think that Lake Palmer will take a lot beating though , that Theroux documentary is pure comedy gold.

My wife sat in & gave me the Thai side which differed significantly from his.

Am I alone in wondering how a documentary crew happened to be there, or which of the 'plugged-in-every-scene-he-was-in' beer company funded the film?

Obviously it was filmed after the events happened. What is the Thai side exactly?, apart from the me poor have baby, have to take care family routine- Thai work hard have have little money Falang work little bit have big money, (therefore i am justified to cheat him out of everything by pretending to care about him!) You don't expect a scamming ex prostitute to tell the truth here surely?

This was probably at least 8 years ago, and the events before as he is filmed going home from DM. I had a GF from the same town once, met some right sorts there, one after another boasting about how much falang give them, then the idea catches on, so ugly too with no manners, culture or brains.

I have had discussions with my wife about all kinds of things, but again, I came to Thailand to have a nice relaxing life. First of all, the Thai being spoken here was hardly higher-level academic Thai with advanced vocabulary. I've studied Thai for several years and had absolutely no trouble understanding what the women were saying. They spoke clearly, in standard Thai, which they probably perfected while working in Bangkok.

Tip had never been with a foreigner when she decided to leave that low-paying job in the plastics factory to go work in the bar. She did it to take care of her daughter, for whom she has high hopes. Interestly, they had a brief visit to a school room in her hometown, where they asked the girls what they wanted to be when they grew up "doctor", "teacher" was the reply. The teacher said "most will be farmers". This was after they showed the Issan women venerating the statue of Ya Mo in Korat and told a version of the historical story that Ya Mo leading the local women in getting the invading soldiers drunk and slitting their throats to save their country. Issan women have been taking care of themselves for a long time.

Later in the film she also commented about how her husband never went home (presumably to England) and never did any work. Of course, everyone has noticed how he was never far from a bottle of Chang and a cigarette. For someone who professed to be broke, he seems to have funds for those habits.

I think the marriage would have been much different if he had shown more initiative around the farm, learned some of the language and, in general -- acted like a husband (and partner) instead of a child (or pet) that expected to be taken care of forever. Is it any wonder she simply lost interest?
