Mini-video: Following terrorists plots in UK, Phuket Airport increased security.

Explosive device disposal teams and security personnel intensified their operations at Phuket International Airport since Thursday following the bomb plot uncovered in the UK. The anti-terrorist measures increased from the daily routine in which passengers entering the airport terminal have all their belongings check through x-ray scan. Now the airport authority keeps announcing to remind people not to leave their baggage unattended while security teams thoroughly check any corner for the highest safety of passengers.

All airlines like Thai Airways or low cost airlines are still operating as normal. On the local authority side, Phuket governor Udomsak Uswarangkura instructed all responsible personnel to closely monitor the situation in prevention of any disturbances and to assure tourists and plane passengers of the highest safety.

Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of Thailand issued a letter signed by its president, and copied to us, stating that the AOT would like to assure all airlines that it has taken the appropriate action. AOT has strengthened its security at all airports under its supervision, especially Don Muang International Airport. The measures include security check points for passengers as well as authorized airport employees and vehicles, security patrols, bomb-sniffing dogs, closed-circuit surveillance and strict pre-board screening.

Mini-video: Thai Airways introduced new rules for passengers to UK & USA.

Following the August 10th uncovering of a plan for terrorism on board aircrafts, the Thai national carrier Thai Airways also issued an announcement stating that they are adding more special security arrangements for passengers on every THAI flight from Bangkok to UK the United States of America to follow regulations of the Transportation Security Administration in the United States of America and British Airport Authority (BAA), including:

1. Passengers being restricted from bringing carry-on items, but these may be transported as checked in baggage.

2. Passengers can bring personal belongings or items listed by security which have to be contained in a plastic bag that can be seen clearly.

Passengers traveling to the States are allowed to bring a carry-on bag on board. THAI will continue to operate flights to London 2 times a day, to Los Angeles 4 times a week and to New York 3 times a week. It requests passengers traveling to the two countries to arrive at Bangkok airport at least 3 hours before the flight departure, and to strictly follow the security regulations.

We just learnt 30 minutes ago (at 8am) that the UK terror threat level has now been downgraded from critical to severe, as an attack was "highly likely" but no longer "imminent". The change in the threat level means the ban on taking hand luggage on to flights from the UK has been lifted although some restrictions remain.
