General Chavalit confirms rumour of early retirement of three top officers

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh said today that the rumour that three top-ranking army officers were asked to step down before their mandatory retirement so that they could devote to work full time for the government was not groundless.

According to Daily News Online, He insisted that the rumour was grounded as the National Council for Peace and Order had asked the three top brass whether they could resign in advance of their retirement because their ministerial positions would require them to work harder this year and that they might not be able to do so as required if they still cling on to their posts in the military.

The three officers are General Chatchai Sarigalaya, deputy army commander-in-chief and commerce minister; General Paibul Khumchaya, deputy supreme commander and justice minister; and GeneralSurachet Chaiwong, chief of staff officers attached to the Supreme Commander and deputy education minister.

General Chavalit insisted that the NCPO did not force their resignation but merely made an enquiry. However, he said he believed the three officers were strong enough to carry on with their dual responsibilities.

So the old hog is still alive it seems. Never court marshalled for his various "honest mistakes" and we never found out, where he hid his skeletons together with Thaksin for the last almost 20 years. Well, hopefully some higher authorities will deal with the inventor of "Green Isan" once he handed in his dinner pale 8-)

Justice Minister denies rumors of calls for three chief army leaders to call it a day

BANGKOK: -- Justice Minister and Deputy Supreme Commander Paiboon Kumchaya has brushed aside rumors that the government has demanded that three military leaders step down from their positions, saying it was a hoax.

The idle talk was spread through the grapevine that the government had asked General Chatchai Sarikalaya, deputy army chief and Minister of Commerce, Lt Gen Surachet Chaiyawong, the army's deputy chief-of-staff and deputy education minister, and General Paiboon himself to take early retirement so as not to cause disruptions in the army’s management.

According to the General, he had no idea who spread the gossip and what for what purpose. Asked whether he would take legal action against the culprit, if caught, he said it was nonsense taking the rumor seriously and a waste of of time.

"he believed the three officers were strong enough to carry on with their dual responsibilities."

Should read:

'he believed the three officers were strong enough to carry on with their dual salaries.'

The salaries are the least significant perk of this kind of military post, I can assure you. It acts as mere beer money in comparison to the main action with contracts and promotions. wink.png
