PAKORN GOT LAMBORGHINI FROM KMITL SUSPECT

BANGKOK: -- POPULAR actor Pakorn Chatborirak will be summoned by police to give further statements about buying a Bt13.5 million Lamborghini from a man suspected of involvement in a high-profile heist of more than Bt1.5 billion from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Lat Krabang, a senior policeman said yesterday.

Pol Colonel Kornchai Khlaikhlueng said he had doubts over Pakorn's earlier statement that he did not know Kittisak Matthujad. But whether the luxury car, which Kittisak reportedly bought for Bt19.5 milion and resold to Pakorn just two months later, would be "frozen" or seized would depend on the Anti-Money Laundering Office, which will later take charge of a joint |investigation with the Crime Suppression Division.

The officer, a deputy CSD commander, said Pakorn had met with case investigators to give initial statements and produce purchase documents. "If Pakorn had met me I would have more questions for him. We need to check out his connection with the suspects, in response to his claim that he did not know any of them," he said.

Kornchai also warned people who had bought anything from this group of suspects including Kittisak, saying all items found to have been bought with money stolen from the KMITL would be "frozen" and seized.

Kittisak has booked a flight back to Bangkok on January 12, but police said they don't expect him to return. The officer said Kittisak may have Bt700 million of the Bt1.49 billion taken from the KMITL's coffers |over the past two years.

Kornchai said Pakorn bought the car from Car Max on Rama IX Road in Bangkok, and that Kittisak's sale of the car meant he lost Bt6 million in two months. He said losing so much money so quickly was "a practice that even real rich people don't adopt".

The officer said two other suspects in custody - Amporn Noisamrit, director of KMITL's Fiscal Office, and Songklod Sriprasong, director of a Bank of Ayudhya branch - had been implicated tightly by documents in police hands. But he said there were others "with high profiles" behind the theft but police did not have evidence against them yet.

A former KMITL rector, Thawil Phuengma, and four members of the management will today meet with CSD officers at 10am, a police source said. Thawil's term was during the time the money was lost from 2012 to 2014.

Am I missing something here? An Actor purchases a luxury car from a large national car dealership, Car Max on Rama IX. The Police focus attention on the relationship between the Actor and the Person who sold the car to Car Max. Haven't they skipped a connection? Who's investigating the owners of Car Max?

As a side note, what happened to the 300 luxury vehicles that vanished from customs and excise storage? Did they ever interview Penn & Teller, or any other famous magicians? If these missing cars did come onto the market, I wonder where the point-of-sale was?

Not sure they are going to be able to seize the car from the actor. If seizing property legally purchased from a somebody who may have originally bought it with illegally gained money meant you could have your goods seized, pretty much everything we (thought we) own purchased from a big corporation could be seized.

Actor got a great deal but if the paperwork was in order (not stolen) it should not be his responsibility to investigate how the seller earned his money to purchase the car or investigate his reason for wanting to unload it quickly.

He said there were others "with high profiles" behind the theft but police did not have evidence against them yet.

If they don't have any evidence, how can they say they are involved.

When they say that, they are actually saying that they need a high ranking officer to negotiate an incentive not to prosecute or that they need permission to proceed against a member of the Thai Elite.

He is only an actor. As one very famous actor once said "What is hard in acting? I get up get taken to the studio, someone puts my makeup on for me, a copy of the script is thrust into my hands. All I have to do is read what someone else wrote. what is hard in that?" (quote Anthony Hopkins)

The thai police wouldn't know evidence if you hit them if the face with it. It just not something that ever comes up in police proceedings here.

Either the suspect is a nobody and they can intimidate or beat a confession out of them, or he's connected and he'll walk (unless somebody better connected wants him to go down). It is that simple.

Wonder where he and his leather suit will hide out; Cambodia, Lao, Dubai ?

Re the car dealer. Many will sell cars on commission - they don't buy a vehicle directly. They only act as a sort of marketing manager and extract a fee. So the car's papers are likely still in the name of Kittisak, and therefore legally actionable. Meanwhile, our "actor" friend can probably only sue Kittisak to try to get his money back as the dealer, under Thai law, can claim complete innocence in the matter - after offering a sizeable discount on a Ferrari to Pol Col Nol, of course. :)

could be the actor bought on consignment via carmax, but either way carmax should be part of the investigation.

Well, Hopkins was being modest. But, when it comes to being a soap star, there is very little talent involved. Just luck. Some, like the Matt Damon's, and the Robert De Niros and the Merryl Streeps and the Robert Downey Jr.s of the world have incredible talent. But, the soap stars? Nearly anyone could play an angry, jealous, homicidal maniac. Take someone off the street, give them a lesson or two, and you have another soap star.
