18 Coins is still there.

Across the street is another place called THE COINS which used to be Eat Well (now closed).

Business relationship between 18 Coins and THE COINS? Dunno.

I was recently on the soi and I recall BOTH restaurants were operating.

You seem to be saying if you want the old 18 Coins experience go to the new THE COINS across the road.

OK, if you say so.

Apparently the 18 coins hotel wanted to increase the rent by 60% so they moved accross the road to what is now The Coins, as previously stated same menu, same prices

In the old place people have said the service was too slow, that was due to having a very small kitchen area but last sunday I went for lunch in THE COINS with the missus and both our meals arrived twice as fast as they used to and within seconds of each other, which they never did previously accross the road

It looks like the owners of the 18 coins opened their restaurant but from what I saw it only had 2 customers at lunchtime, I think they are trying to attract chinese tour groups, which I suppose makes sense as the owners I believe are Chinese/Thai

Yes correct- on 1st January the "old" 18 Coins moved across the street into what was "Eat Well" in Malees Lodge and re-named "The Coins" same owner and staff as before- this was entirely due to a huge increase in rent, it is serving the same food as before with just a slight increase in price e.g. daily specials raised from 149 baht to 155.The new "18 Coins" is advertising "all you can eat breakfast buffet" at 145 baht and daily specials (well sometimes) in excess of 200 baht plus. The "Coins" seems to be winning the battle with bums on seats as the "18 Coins" has priced itself out of the market.......for the time being........ but watch this space whistling.gif
