A steel Colnago in Thai climate

Featured Replies

Hi!

I hope someone would be able to advise me on the following.

A few years ago I've built a nice Colnago Master for my recovery rides and commuting. I love this bike and miss it much as I left it in home country. My biggest concern is the corrosion. I can see how fast does the rust cover all the metal parts here (in Phuket), so I'm afraid the frame will not live for long time here, or at least will become covered by rust stains. I also cannot imagine how to protect it other than covering with some lube or something, but it's of course unsuitable solution.

Would be grateful for any input.

Thx.

A classic looking bike! I guess maintenance will just be a bit more labour intensive. You could treat the inside of the frame to an anti corrosion spray - probably have to recoat every rainy season and touch up any scratches/chips. Also swap out the components for some tastfully cool Ti/carbon/alloy/stainless etc, keeping an eye on dissimilar metal corrosion - eg alloy seatpost etc.....

Thank you, Bobfish. It already has modern drivetrain - I've equipped it with campa record 11. The same brand seatpost, carbon. The only Alu part is handlebar.

It has that chrome Precisa forks, which I'm afraid will fade soon.
