She won't go to jail, house arrest at best, the new piggies at the trough will get fat, Thaksin will jump up in down in frustration.

Just like ASSK; no matter what the Junta did to her, she always came out stronger and louder.

Stupidity is not a crime, else >99% of the nation will be in jail already.

ASSK - as serious intelligent highly principle lady, prepared to suffer to advance freedom and democracy for her country.

Yingluck - a dumb unprincipled proven liar prepared to do anything to advance her brother and family.

And you think they are similar?

disgraceful post - you think ASSK would approve of the Junta and Army take-over? really??? ASSK fought for and IS fighting for justice and although Yingluck is NO ASSK, obviously, she has shown remarkable fortitude and resilience and you, Sir, are a natural born bully and it spills out from your posts like s**t from a shovel

give it a rest there is NO evidence of theft or cheating just, maybe, a mistaken policy not very well thought out as ALL governments have done on occasion

subsidizing poor farmers is not a crime nor is increasing rice output as her governments did - you say she personally benefited where is the EVIDENCE?

"It is not over on the 23rd, tomorrow is not the end. Time will tell... We have to be patient," Jatuporn urged his viewers.

So, "burn, Bangkok, burn" is coming back to town one day soon ... and the cycle will start all over again ...

Whatever happened to Jatuporn's criminal charges. His he still on bail pending an appeal?

Along with Arisman and Nat the rice transporter, he would have been jailed a long time ago in any Western country.

Jatuporn is on a 2 year suspended sentence at present with his trucking mate which can be enacted at any time so he had better keep his head down and mouth shut :

How dare anyone suggest she did anything wrong.

This scheme supported Thailand's rural poor. Didn't they all get rich from this scheme after all? There was nothing wrong with it. And why can't the Shins take what they want from the government, they were in charge at the time.

When will you silly little people realize Thailand is just another Shin piggy bank. To be raided when they want to build family wealth.

The farmers love them and even if they got robbed, it's must have been that evil Abhasit who did it.

Can you please leave Yingsy alone to get on with her shopping.

Criminal can support the poor too.

Didn't Robin Hood punished for his crime or something?

Robin Hood reportedly stole from the rich and gave to the poor farmers.

The Shins reportedly stole from the rich, the poor farmers and kept it themselves.

See the difference?

'reportedly stole' any EVIDENCE? no??? then stop repeating the lie if it is TRUE then where are the documents? bank statements? witness statements? and where is the COURT CASE? there isn't one because there is NO evidence because there was no theft

No theft?!!! what do you call the disappearance of billions of baht when they were in power 'overseeing' the rice scheme? what is your explanation?

Yingluck is far, far away from ASSK (chottee is a troll btw guys) but both countries have their share a recent history of military dictatorships.to this very day. Difference is Thailand has had pesky civilian governments in-between.

My God, I think you really believe that. I know it can be tricky thinking more than one step into the future so I'll spell it out for you:

Thaksin invents scheme where all the grass-root red-shirt leaders can easily skim money and get rich

These grateful red-shirt leaders convince all the local buffalo that Thaksin is great and Abhisit is the devil

The buffalo vote Pheu-Thai back in at the next election.

Pheu-Thai make rules and laws which allow ALL of them to operate their corruption with impunity.

Thaksin and Pheu-Thai MP's get rich by stealing from the tax-payer.

Don't bother trying to learn chess.

if you really believe that's what happened snakes and ladders would confuse your (alleged) intellect

and you obviously don't do any reading! the 600 billion there that everyone wants to know about. you gonna deny that too? and for what personal benefit?

US and Europe? <deleted>? totally unrelated system and nothing to do with the topic...only less graft in those regions from liege lord oligarchies!

EU and US subsidies, which have their own rationale, not the same as Thailand, are not the topic here.

A guilty verdict would bring an automatic five-year ban from politics and risks enraging her family's 'Red Shirt' supporters, who have laid low not been paid since the coup.

Get ready to eat lead, you red vermin. Yeee haaaa cowboy.gif

five-year ban wouldn't be a drama. she has a sister, Thaksin has some other relatives, his children are soon in the age to be premier. It is a pretty large family.

I am making a perfectly valid point here. Subsidies for farmers are common the world over and are not hailed as LOSSES or THEFT this junta claims they are but others would claim they are subsidies

it's all a question of 'spin' and those that just accept this as 'fact' are doing so from a position of political bias or are stupid - this is not about rice it's about things we cannot discuss

She produced documents shown with PowerPoint on the screen saying she had many committees to supervise and monitor rice sales to ensure no corruption, and transparency.

She was told she was not allowed to produce documents so how did she get away with that ?

She identified opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, and Dr Warong Dejkijwikrom as her political foes but questioned why the graft buster called them to give information.

She also questioned the short 21-day time taken by the NACC to conclude its probe and accused her, saying it had hidden agenda.

For a start the NACC did not call on Abhisit and Warong to give evidence they took the evidence they produced at the no confidence debate in 2012 to the NACC.

That was when the NACC investigation into the scheme and Yinglucks involvements started.

So her first statement proves the second, regarding 21 days, to be wrong.

She denied all accusations and pleaded for justices from the NLA, saying she never has any thought to corrupt, to neglect, but would merely want a chance for the poor farmers to have better living, to stand on their own feet, and live happily.

It may be true that she never had thoughts of corruption or neglect, but thoughts and actions or in this case inaction are entirely different things.

As it turned out the farmers are now poorer and deeper in debt than before the scheme started, as the scheme only included 18% of poor farmers and they only got 5% of the money paid to farmers (from World Bank report).

Them there are the 16 who will never stand on their feet again as they found themselves so hopelessly in debt they saw no way out other out than to take their own lives.

Someone in her position who has never known anything but riches can never understand the hopelessness of debt that led to these farmers to taking their lives nor the debt the scheme has left so many others in.

It is also true to say that the scheme is also responsible for the problems the country has now of disposing of the rice in stock and the ongoing cost of storing it until it can be sold.

" She remained adamantly that her rice pledging scheme is beneficial to the farmers, and will enable them to have a quality of life."

Beneficial to the farmers ???? That's obviously why some of them committed suicide ??

All the money and rice were found intact?

Typical red shirt rhetoric. The rice scheme worked well?, all the farmers got paid, The Shins remain the people's champions despite all evidence that they robbed the farmers blind.

Thainess means never having to say you're sorry. However guilty you are.

Yingluck calls on NLA to be fair as she delivers her statement
Pravit Rojanaphruk
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- In her closing statement to the National Legislative Assembly, former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra categorically denied all charges against her over the rice-pledging scheme, saying she was being wrongly singled out by the National Anti-Corruption (NACC) due to their bias.

She called on the NLA to be fair when voting Friday on whether she should be impeached, as it might result in her being banned from politics for five years.

"I want to deny all charges levelled against me," Yingluck said, insisting that she was innocent. "Trying to prosecute me alone illuminates the fact that there's a hidden agenda.

"I have never thought of cheating, nor have I been negligent in my duties or behaved in any way that would point to possible corruption," the former premier said, as she wrapped up her hourlong statement Thursday.

The evidence is the rice scheme failed Thailand, failed the farmers, failed everyone but the corrupt officials (overseen by Yingsy).

Where is the rice and the money from the sales?

You conveniently forgot the rice warehouses which seemed piled high, but we're just bags of rice held up by scaffolding , hiding a big empty space, where the stolen rice should have been.

Redshirts keep twisting the truth.

Thainess means never having to say sorry.

Do you regard them as vermin?

Security tightened at Parliament as Yingluck arrives

Locking up the silverware and petty cash?

Most likely locking up the overpriced microphones.

I don't believe the purchase of those items went ahead. I think the current government stopped that owing to the cost. Feel free to correct me if I am mistaken. Or is this a funny ha, ha.

It is not so important this impeachment verdict, that only gives her the 5 year ban... She would come back in 2020 anyway and the idiots will vote her back in having totally forgotten how rotten to the core and how much a danger to the country she and her cronies are.

The defining moment will be a criminal prosecution. Even if she escapes a prison sentence and just gets a huge fine, that will be the end of her politically. Because you can NOT stand as an MP if you have a criminal conviction.

Yingluck says she’s done nothing wrong

22-1-2558-12-30-47-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today defended accusation of negligence of duties in the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) that resulted in huge loss and rampant corruption, claiming that they were unfounded and imagination.

She remained adamantly that her rice pledging scheme is beneficial to the farmers, and will enable them to have a quality of life.

In the 50-minute defence of her innocence, she said she has done nothing wrong and still hoped the scheme could be of great benefit to the country to the poor farmers if it is continued.

She said accusations that the disappearance of million tons of rice and the G-to-G rice deal with China were also misleading the public that they were true.

She produced documents shown with PowerPoint on the screen saying she had many committees to supervise and monitor rice sales to ensure no corruption, and transparency.

She also said the accusations were based on those who were hostile to her government but were kept as witnesses by the NACC.

Her defence of the rice-pledging scheme in the closing statement today came after the National Anti-Corruption Commission member Vicha Mahakun verbally presented summary of the accusations in the closing statement.

She denied all accusations and pleaded for justices from the NLA, saying she never has any thought to corrupt, to neglect, but would merely want a chance for the poor farmers to have better living, to stand on their own feet, and live happily.

In one stage, she said should she were to be removed by the NLA under unfounded, doubtful, and vague accusations, it would be tantamount to deprive her of the basic right of freedom as she would lose her political rights for five years.

Mr Vicha said in the closing statement calling NLA members to decide without bias the guilts of the former premier who he described should have more conscience and responsibility than ordinary people to sit in the top position in the country but neglected such responsibility.

He said person with no intellectuality but commits serious wrongdoings deserves pardon if he has morality as he could be remedied and can be beneficial to the country.

But a person with intelligence, knowledge but lacks of conscience, morality will merely cause enormous damage to the country that could never be seen again of such enormous amount in this century, he said.

Mr Vicha described how the pledging scheme of the accused was a total failure, saying “the farmers pawn their lives while the country pawns the debts.”

Every step of the scheme was corrupted, and caused serious damages to the country, he said.

He said the damage of almost 700 billion baht incurred by Ms Yingluck’s negligence of duties now poses heavy burden for this government to slowly release 17 million tons of the pledged rice in the stocks, so as not to affect the rice price.

Now the farmers are suffering from such remaining huge stocks, he said.

He called on all NLA members to make history to punish and remove irresponsible politicians.

The NLA will vote tomorrow whether to remove her or not.

good for her! but the die is cast and the long knives are out and they do not care about the truth

The truth is she raped the country's rice farmers for the personal gain of herself, PTP and profiteers (rice millers, rice storage operators and rice smugglers).

The truth is, that's your opinion (right or wrong) and nothing more.

I wonder if there's a defence for 'Ignorance' in Thai law ... it certainly doesn't exist in the west but if it existed in Thailand it's something she could use for I doubt very much if she actually knew of 50% of what was going on by her brother and his cronies.

So ... if found guilty she gets barred for 5 years from politics. Is that it? No imprisonment, no having to pay back the billions of baht, no risk of having her assets confiscated?

Is it just me or does anyone else wonder why Thailand is corrupt to the core?

Observers say the febrile politics of recent years, characterised by bouts of street protest and violence, is fired by the concerns of competing elites over the future of the kingdom once the king's reign ends.

And this is where we start getting to the truth that few if anyone will talk about. The cake has already been carved up and it's as sure as hell the poor won't get a taste. One of the underlying reasons education has be suppressed over the decades is due to the undeniable fact that it is almost impossible to control and educated nation.

Before I finally left Thailand I had a number of my Thai friends express their concerns for the future and they all feel that the military will tighten its grip in order to protect the elite and ultimately control the country.

Considering the events over the last few decades it is most unlikely that the Thai population will ever see the daylight of democracy. The country, since the military takeover, been subjected to on-going martial law, the removal of free speech, the conditioning of citizens through attitude adjustments and the propaganda of happiness in order to once again attempt to unite the people in defending the ruling elite.

I think those of us who are not Thai should count our blessings.

can you free protest in USA ?

can you free protest in OK ?

can you free protest in EU ?

No ! you cant ! even in a so called free democratic country you can protest only if the goverment alows you !

So what you expext different here ??
