Gov't working to boost tourism, Thai PM says

BANGKOK, 24 January 2015 (NNT) – The Thai government is looking to increase more tourism channels, while the floating market set up beside the government house is intended to increase the people’s income.

On the national televised program, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha stated that the government is considering more water tourism channels, which includes constructions of more piers to accommodate more tourists and trade.

He has said that the promotion of water tourism is directly in correlation to the integration of the ASEAN Community, which the Thai government and Vietnam had agreed to established more tourism along water routes in 2015.

The Prime Minister spoke on the success of the Discover Thainess event and Thailand Tourism festival during 14-18 January 2015 that drew 613,325 people to the event. The turn out was much higher than the previous year, and both events generated a circulation of 229 million baht.

The Prime Minister has also mentioned that the government will be looking to set up the floating market at the Phasing Krung Kasem Canal next to the government house due to the convenient location and the tourism attraction potential of the area.

He said that the floating market will be another way to increase public income and will support those who have been previously affected from the traffic arrangements that has forced many street retailers to stop their activities.

The floating market next to the government house is expected to commence on 2 February 2015, said the Prime Minister.

Surely They Jest...

ASEAN, Discover Thainess, promote tourism...

I can no longer tell which day of the week it is if they're going to mix it all up.

maybe if they start charging everyone the same price it might help, if they stop all the rorts that are used on tourists and do something about the police and their corrupt practices used on them as well. Thailand is great but the corruption, mafia that run the tourist areas and police are the killers of it, who wants to come here to be ripped off by a country that thinks they are untouchable and that every foreigner is fair game.

Gov't working to boost tourism for other countries, Thai PM says

That's what I read :)

Dear General, wouldn't establishing a floating market next to Government House to increase "people's income" simply detract the "people's income" at other floating markets?

Or do you think people will go to both?

Luke had a bad experience in a rip-off taxi, which you have yet to fix, and he was quoted 4,000 baht for a boat. He was rightly annoyed.

Will this continue to be the normal pricing practices?

The people want to know, because, quite frankly, this is a really dumb idea. Just saying.

They are resigning and holding an election?

How are they going to boost it? By allowing misguided sweet boys(they call themselves mafia )to continue putting hits on tourists then get away with it?

On touristic markets in BKK everything costs 3-5 times the normal price, add the low euro to that and you can understand how many EU-tourists will come to the floating fake market.

A 10-20% devaluation of the THB might help -hey it might even bring back the Russians! crazy.gif.pagespeed.ce.dzDUUqYcHZL4v7J7m

The reality is that they will bumble along with a slew of ineffective ideas and initiatives that do very little, until such times as an iunrelated mprovement in global economic conditions result in an increase in tourism, at which time they will claim the ideas and initiatives are working.

Mind you, that's pretty much how all governments work 55555555

Mind boggling. Like the decision not to allow any umbrellas, chairs and other services (food, beverage, massage) on the beach on Wednesdays in Pattaya and Jomtien. Okay on the other 6 days. Maybe they have decreed that the sun will not come and it will rain all day every Wednesday

What are they going to do?

Mass kidnap from Europe?

BTS and taxi discounts for sex tourists?

More TV commercials of single men hanging out with young boys unsupervised in remote places?

Yes general, micromanaging a beach one day per week, a floating market..... that will bring all the tourists back rolleyes.gif

Rumour has it the TAT will organise special tours to watch the House where the female Martyr for Democracy is being kept. Also tours visiting Rice Warehouses are contemplated with free samples thrown in.

With the EURO having moved from being worth 44 to 37 Baht now there is a bit of a problem indeed.

I think Prayut has just given his answer to your question:

"I will build it. You have a problem with that? Otherwise, why the hell am I the Prime Minister? Why am I the Prime Minister?"

:)

Smiling Assassins. I love this joke-shop of a country

Shouldn't the boosting tourism board be 24/7/365 ? So are they going to get a raise for that? Amazing.

The Thainess event was very popular with Thais. Most of the posters for the event were in Thai only. All the signs in the event were in Thai only. The vast majority of people who visited the event were Thais with a very small sprinkling of expats.

I think that next to no tourists visited the event. If this is what the government thinks will pull in tourists, they are dreaming.

Ok, this guy is now so far out of his depth, he should just give up already and allow free elections.

Time to pull the plug on this farce.

If bull shit were music, this government would have a number one hit.

They are really going to boost tourism announcing totally idiotic alcohol laws as they did today

It makes me wonder if this bunch ever had any kind of formal education
