This is probably answered in the topics but i need to ask for quick confirmation.

Do I need a forwarding flight when arriving on a tourist visa if I intend to extend it but do not know exactly what date I will be leaving on ?

Thank you for your answers..

If you haven't got an onward ticket out of Thailand within the 30 days the airline will ask you for a visa.

Qatar airlines would not let me board my flight until I showed proof of leaving the kingdom within the 30 days.

Sorry, that is wrong.

They should only ask for an out-of country ticket if you do not have a visa.

if you have a visa, they usually will not require a onward ticket.

As the post above states, correctly.

So the burning question is:-

Does our OP have a Tourist Visa obtained from a consulate/embassy or does he intend using a Visa Exemption (30 day stamp on arrival) which is often referred to (incorrectly) as a Tourist Visa.?

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

To make it simple.

Visa attached to a page in your passport before you leave your home country, no onward ticket required.

If you intend getting a 30 day visa-exempt stamp at BKK, you should have proof of onward travel and may be denied boarding depending on the airline you are using.

The last couple times I came and stayed 3 weeks then left. I had forwarding flights already booked. I did not arrive with a visa. No airline asked me if I had a visa or return flight. That is why I am asking if I need proof of a return flight or not. I will not be arriving with a visa already.

What if I do not want to fly out of Thailand and just want to proceed into Malaysia or Myanmar.

Thank you.

You will be arriving without a visa, thus must hold proof of onward travel within 30 says of arrival. Immigration as rule does not check this, they leave it up to the airline. Some airlines are very strict in enforcing this rule, others are more relaxed or do not check at all.

It means you might be allright, but do run the risk of being denied boarding.

If you do not want to fly out but use landtransport, it is still upon the ailrine what they will accept as proof of onward travel.

I had to book an onward ticket there and then. Air Asia flight to KL was all I could think of, having the app on my phone helped. Still, it was money wasted.

Is booking the same as paying now?
