Have had enough

Hi guys

Just to let you know that I have decided to call it a day on the photo forum.

Have sent one of our mods a request to put me on a ban because I am sick and tired of a couple of idiots on our forum.

The total lack of respect shown towards other members on here and to photography itself has really got to me.So much

so that instead of looking forward to seeing what has been posted it has become more a case of wondering what idiotic

remarks have been made.Me being me,I know I can't bite mt tongue for much longer and would probably end up replying

to one of those comments in a way that would get me banned anyway.

I would like to take the opportunity now to thank all of you that have helped me and inspired me to become a better

photographer, and I hope that the forum will return to it's happy and respectful place it used to be.

Cheers

Shaggy

What's up Shag?

I for one will miss your input ,but you go away and still enjoy your photography.

Ever since I got into this "art" of photography I've found I'm more in touch with my feminine side. Yes. I too go on the rag once a month for at least a few days.

Shag, stop it. Flounce over!

Shaggy, you know what I think, I've said it in PMs.....that's PMs, btw MJP, not PMS (although I have barely kept that under control too).... It is better to stay and fight the idiots in a controlled manner rather than walk away....then the lunatics take over the asylum w00t.gif Things can only get better if highly valued posters like yourself stay and continue to contribute. Use the report button when there is a need, and speak out, my man... If enough people stand up against nonsense, then that nonsense cannot prevail.

I'll openly admit that I have used the report button when there have been offensive posts, and I have done my best to create posts that ask - almost beg - for more thought in posting comments (I managed to make a dumb 'joke' to another member,...we can all do it...so I posted an rapid apology). Like Shaggy, I have got to the point where I will post or PM something highly inappropriate (but 100% justified) shortly if certain posters do not haul their necks in and behave in a respectful manner. Simple choice folks, AFAIAC, shut up or shove off!

I am really sad that Shaggy has come to feel as he does, but I'm not surprised: this has been building for a long time, not just in him, but in another top-notch member and in me too (no big loss there though). I alluded to this in a recent rant in another thread. Things are rapidly going down the chute at the moment in the forum, and two or three people are, at least in my mind, to blame. I love scratching around on the periphery of photography, and this forum has been a godsend, but now it is becoming less than enjoyable, as thread after thread becomes polluted with inane downright offensive comments. I accept that they are sometimes passed off as attempts at humour, and we sometimes forget that English is not everyone's first language, but certain people have been so frequently corrected publicly, in members' PMs and quite possibly officially, that there really is no excuse for their behaviour. They need to go.

I am not advocating a closed group here - that would be its death-knell - we need new faces posting new ideas and new topics, but fer gawd's sake can we keep the mentality of the General or News forums where it belongs - in General or News.

Damn. I'm getting so hacked off with all this sharn (a Scots that should evade the auto-censor) that I'm starting to split my infinitives...a clear sign that it is time to also seriously consider leaving what used to be such an enjoyable and educational forum. Maybe it really has gone past the point of no return, at least for me, but I'm too stupid to realise it.

To the mods, please be kind to Shaggy and put his post down to temporary insanity....probably over-exposure to something that caused him to lose focus.

Haud on there a wee minute, Shaggy! Keep the taxi door open......

Who's the cause of these problems and bad atmosphere on the forum?

I've not paid a lot of attention to the place of late, busy. Had a look in now and again and seen photographs. Bored of photographs at the moment.

wow; sorry to hear this;

i have no idea about bad posters but i am not all over the place,

just spend my time in "Street photography" where we all seem to be a good group :-)

PM on its way, in case Shaggy's request has been actioned already...

As Rob mentioned, use the report button, when you feel it's needed. It is a tool to keep the forum clean from posts which should not be here and works better than replying to a biting post (which causes more controversy).

Some comments don't deserve a reply, but to be removed. When you report a bad post, it will always be evaluated by the moderators. It is an effective way to keep the forum clean and enjoyable for all of us.

I apologise for removing your quote as you had posted previous Rob8891 , but I cannot let this go un-replied .

It seems as though the forum has lost an invaluable member in shaggy1969 ,when he was gaining so much skill and confidence in Photograhy.

Shaggy's unique style and individuality always made for a great view and I as one would always look forward to coming home from a days work to admire the personality that his images displayed , now I figure that it may be time to download all the previous images I have not done to date.

Unfortunately the threads have become just that IMO ( threads) , there does not seem to be a smooth flow to it all and some incoherent undermining

is leading to the degradation of others as well , well from my viewpoint anyway .

I cannot blame shaggy for feeling this way and I admire that he has been a major part of the foundation of TVF in the Photograhy and Arts section , this is where I keep my head in in most respects. There are many other fantastic posters here who take the time to deliver a brilliant image with their individual skills , some being Processing , some Composition , Camera settings, filters etc. Many toggers I would gladly accept the wisdom they hold , should they part with it . Some shots I just look in awe and think how did they do that ? and try and work it out for myself .

I became a part of TVF initially as My wife and I have land in LOS up north and to seek a bit of knowledge regarding the issues many face in Thai lifestyle and general views , so I started my initiation on General and News , wow , what a mess !

As a farmer I checked out the Farming forum and came across the Farm photo thread and shaggy's topic , I was made very welcome and then started to branch out into the other topics as well , of course with some guidance as well though.

I feel a bit hollow today knowing that shaggy has hung up the camera strap not simply for the loss of a fantastic and welcoming photographer , but for the loss of my reason for becoming involved for the last almost 2 years , this has become a part of my life and sad to see it fall apart like this ....

and as Rob said ... " Just let me get my hat and coat mate , I'm coming with you "

Right. I've had enough of all this too.

You lot. Learn to use the 'Ignore' function.

Go to the top right of your screen where your screen name is, drop down menu, "Manage Ignore Preferences".

Do it now. Add all the twonts to it. And we're back to normal.

Yes, I have one. What's an advanced mag belt on a concrete crusher?

It's a £15k extra. Oversized electro-mag belt for metals recovery over the discharge conveyor. No metal in crush. All metal in bin. Costs recovered in around 9-12 months. No issues with crushed concrete specification.

I'm watching it right now. Never been so impressed with a mobile crusher.

Just to say that Rob is having self imposed-exile for a while......I am taking a holiday from posting. I doubt that I improved matters with the outburst(s), but recent events killed the enjoyment for me. Still, the blood pressure is down. The forum has been a bit of an addiction, so I will try to go cold turkey for a wee whilie

I wish everyone almost everyone all the best.

Ignore button facepalm.gif Why didn't I think of that before!

I use my own mental ignore button. It's one of my best filters. I love the photo forum and feel enthousiastic about the positive and constructive way it is going. Great new posters around as wellthumbsup.gif.

In due time when he's ready, I'll convince Shaggy to return. I think I canthumbsup.gif

I think we need a new forum for Concrete Crushers. There's a strange 'top trumps' fascination about large pieces of powerful machinery - and now I want an over-sized electro mag belt of my own. No idea what it is - but it sounds cool.

FracturedRabbit and MJP - Please post photos!

^^^ Phra Ek....Yeah!...I've had the same feeling...powerful machinery, giant earth moving vehicles,

large Hadron Colliders...etc! The bigger the better! Every boy's dream come true! Seriously!

I had one of these as a kid...

Only it was made by Tonka not Belaz. still I can dream!

It's good for each of us to take a occasional vacation from the internet and concentrate to the real life with all it's megapixels and colours it offers.

Time to close this topic.
