Pattaya:–Police have arrested seven scam suspects, comprising six Nigerian men and one Ganaian, following the raid at an apartment building on SoiChalermprakiat 17, Pattaya Third Road, South Pattaya.

The scam was detected by the Police Coordination Centre against Transnational Crimes, Chon Buri police commander Maj General NitipongNiamnoi said.

The police investigation found that the seven preyed on Thai womenwho seek love online.

A typical scam would trick the victims with false information portraying the scammers as a rich retiree or high-paying professional and using photographs stolen from good-looking Caucasian males or models.

Before reaching for their wallet, the victims would be led into false believe about huge saving accountand the search for a “last soul mate” to settle down with ahead of retirement.

Nitipong reminded women not to fall prey to illusory love promised by the scammers who would then ask for money to pay for “expenses” deemed necessary in exchange for future gifts or valuables.

He said the suspects used proxy bank accounts to receive money sent by victims.

This is not news.

It would be news if people were busted for this who are not from Nigeria.

I feel bad for good Nigerian people that so many from their country have earned a bad reputation for all of them.

Is there no way the good people can keep these sleaze ball in line

or at least locked up?

Just search the TV data base with the word "Nigeria"

You will not find a post not about crime.

They just bring trouble with them . They have been responsible for destroying hundreds of thousands of lives with their DRUG Cartels too. Save Thailand from these thugs ! Once they get a foothold, it is just tragedy that will follow. Most of these Criminals are DANGEROUS.!Ask the people of Africa, they will tell you all about these thugs.!

Also Ghanianz. And the "women" always say they're from Ghana but they're "mixed." They're always beautiful half-Italian/French/whatever and half African, and always did their university in Switzerland but now they're back in Ghana. Gosh-o, I'll have to go to Ghana someday and get me one of those.

I haven't seen a Thai woman arrested and locked up for duping foreigners out of their life savings. Duped is Duped. I don't feel sorry for anyone who commits fraud and takes your money. But seems only foreigners are arrested for duping. Entertain me MR. PM and start arresting all the Thai Women duping foreigners and in some cases pushing them to suicide.

These online romance scams are common in most all countries...although it is surprising that Thai women would fall for the scam with men from Africa...being reminded of the cultural phenomenon of Thai women spending gobs of money trying to have lighter skin...
