Why do you choose Bangkok to retire?
Bangkok is good as a base. I do live in Bangkok since 30 years but leave the city at least twice a month for a few days, mostly Hua Hin or Kanchanaburi. I also spend a lot of time riding my motorbike in the upper Northeast and North of Thailand. I would prefer Hua Hin instead of Pattaya. -

Is the Vientiane border allowing same day turnarounds / Border bounces?
So out of curiosity, how will the new electonic system affect a same day border bounce after January 1. I'm doing the Nong Khai bit early February. Last I read the E visa requirement wasn't mandatory until June. As the OP mentioned anything can be in flux at any given time. -

The 2013 is out of date. Things changed dramatically in recent times. Your Welsh neighbor experience is atypical. Don't know vaguely what you mean by "as a guarantee" The OP is married and still has no success. Which bank and where was your neighbor successful. Did he purchase insurance
