webfact Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Wearing motorcycle helmets to be banned in deep SouthNARATHIWAT: -- Security authorities are considering to ban wearing motorcycle helmets in 13 districts of Narathiwat province following last week's car bomb explosion that injured a dozen of people and damaged almost 50 shop houses. One of the suspects who was captured by surveillance cameras was riding in a motorcycle wearing motorcycle helmet.Security authorities were looking at other cameras in adjacent areas to trace the bombers who police said comprised of eight men.The proposal to ban motorcycle helmet was initiated by Narathiwat governor.According to him, with one of the suspected bombers wearing the helmet, the camera could not capture his face.He then said in the initial stage, he would propose banning wearing motorcycle helmet in the municipal area of Narathiwat town first, and later would extend to cover municipal areas of the rest 12 districts. The proposal yesterday caused confusion on motorcyclists when security personnel stopped all motorcyclists wearing helmets into the Narathiwat town not aware of the ban. Some said they have to wear helmets riding on highways as it was mandated by traffic law but when they entered the town, they were stopped and searched.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/wearing-motorcycle-helmets-banned-deep-south -- Thai PBS 2015-02-23 1

Popular Post TallPalm Posted February 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 23, 2015 Anyone involved in an accident not wearing a helmet should take the local authorities to court. 4

Popular Post canuckamuck Posted February 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 23, 2015 There needs to be a Thainess hall of fame and this one should be featured there. How much tea money do they have to pay for the crime of wearing a helmet? 3
uel1968 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 These rubbish helmets would cause more injury than prevent,in the event of an accident!!!!! 2
oneday Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 And what's to prevent them from wearing a mask as 1000's of Thai people do everyday for work. Do these people think before opening their mouths?
Gandtee Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 So now the authorities will be doing the terrorists work for them. They wont need to plant bombs now and probably the cull rate will be higher.
Popular Post recom273 Posted February 23, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 23, 2015 So, they didn't catch a look at the guys face. How about that big piece of metal with the numbers and squiggles attached to the rear mud guard. 3
maoro2013 Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 So they couldn't get the plate number on the cctv?? Seems like a crazy response to the problem.

Of course they are talking about helmets with face shields that have the purpose of concealing the riders face. I am all for it.

masuk Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Genius This has got to be an early April 1st joke. so the Governor is openly suggesting m/cyclists should break the law??
Bobobirdiebuddy Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Thailand is awash in officials saying idiotic things that as soon as the adults get wind, these lunatic ideas usually die a quiet death. Usually..
petedk Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Have you seen the new TAT advert "we Thais do things differently"? Give when we don't have, kick when we are bored and so on. Add this to the list "ban the use of motorcycle helmets when we drive dangerously"
KIWIBATCH Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 ...actually Gov.... only being allowed completely naked into the towns and cities in the deep south would totally solve the problem....no more strapped on suicide bombers......no grenades in pockets...pen guns...no more knives...zilch concealed weapons..... ......now I must send this suggestion to TAT it could boost tourist numbers considerably...they have been devoid of ideas for the past 2 hours... 1
