Cop-on-Cop Gunfight at Koh Samui Bar Injures Two
By Khaosod English

SURAT THANI—A gunfight broke out between a volunteer police officer and a group of policemen at a bar on Koh Samui island early this morning, injuring two people.

The incident took place at Tawan Chai Cafe on Taweeratphakdee Road at around 2.30 am today, police say.

Staff at the bar told police that Sitthiporn Poonsawasdi, a volunteer police officer, was drinking heavily until the bar closed at 2 am. According to staff, Sitthiporn drunkenly tried to ask musicians at the bar to leave with him, and became angry when they refused.

Sitthiporn then reportedly walked to the front of the bar and fired one shot into the air, prompting the staff to alert police.

Police officers soon arrived and ordered Sitthiporn to drop his weapon, witnesses said. However, Sitthiporn allegedly refused and fired at police. A gunfight then broke out between the officers and Sitthiporn.

Sitthiporn was eventually shot in his left leg and apprehended. A police officer, Lt. Somporn Cherdchim, was also shot in his stomach during the gunfight.

As a 3 time Viet Nam Vet, and a 20 year Marine, I take exception to your comment. But then again, you've probably never been in uniform, and have no concept of what it's like, so you're just another d

Only in Thailand can police be caught drunk in bars while armed, and still get to keep their jobs. I am not referring to this case, but generally.

Another pillar of the community. What an example being set....

Sadly, not in the least bit surprised.

Sure it'll be treated at yet another misunderstanding. whistling.gifrolleyes.gif

Taweeratphakdee Road = ring road.

Tawan Chai Cafe, between Lompraya entrance and Esso station outside Maenam.

"Sitthiporn was eventually shot in his left leg"

wonder how many bullets were needed to "eventually" shoot him by the highly trained police.

It would be funny to see if it weren't so irresponsible and stupidly dangerous behaviour.

Little boys need guns, as their fun making toy's are way TOO small whistling.gif

If it was anything like the US troops in Vietnam they would have needed 50,000 rounds per hit.

The mind boggles at what a day on the ranges must be like when this lot are in town. The range conducting officer would surely need something like this:

ned-kelly-armour.jpg

No police have been charged but bar owner charged for incorrect work permit

What is a volunteer police officer, never heard of such (except foreigners in tourist police)?

If it wasn't this much fun, most of us would have left by now..... It is their culture, it is their way, and those who truly throw themselves into the culture except that this is their way, this is how they, in their country act and respond, and if we come here from western countries and try to understand, we never will. This is how they grew up, this is what they learnt, this is how they do business, and if we want to live here as foreigners, accept, understand, dont try to change them, as we are guests in their country, and how they act is not to be judged by our western ideals. This is how it is, accept it or get over it. They didnt ask us to come into their country and beg us to tell them how to do it, they said OK foreigners, you want to come and live in our country and marry our girls, and show off your wealth which is usually a pittance pension, then no worries, come and live here, but this is how it is.

Im betting an awful lot ( the silent majority) would NOT want it that way though,
