Quite a few CM expats were extras in the movie,. I know one that had a prominent role as an extra, if that makes sense.

The helicopter scene caused a bit of panic when it was filmed on the streets around the hotel it was filmed at. Not everyone knew it was a movie shoot and some thought it was a genuine attack.

Looks interesting! A lot better than I thought it would, for an Owen Wilson movie.

And I like anything that depicts SE Asia as wild and adventurous, not the stale boring tourist trap that it is.

I'm trying to figure out the vantage point used for the opening shot of Chiang Mai and also the hotel where the pool and roof scenes were filmed. Any ideas?

Wasn't some of this movie done in Lampang? They filmed around Chiang Mai gate market and 1000 ring temple. Don't know if it's made it in the movie?

It will be worth shelling out 100 baht for a bargain Wednesday matinee just to check out the Chiang Mai locales and people in the film.

The hotel rooftop scene is the one just behind Nong Hoi market. It used to be blue, but they just finished painting it brown and orange. I can't remember the name of it though, sorry.

wasn't negotiations that brought about the name change. was that some of the more simple test screening audiences didn't understand what the word 'coup' meant.

"The Escape" is a film; it's fictional and doesn't purport to be a documentary.

Nevertheless, how typical it is that the majority of the Thai Visa Chiang Mai members who feel they have to comment on this film (which is not yet released, that they haven't seen and about which they know little except from the media relations machine), still use it as an opportunity to publcise their inane, negative opinions.
