Can anyone shine some light on my latest UK child settlement Visa Application predicament?

My wife realised today that the Por Kor 14 she said she had at home in Thailand was actually something else.

She went to the local Amphur for her daughters surname change and something else a few years ago...for some reason she also thought she applied for a document stating she had sole custody too...a Por Kor 14. We are about to send our supporting docs over as the appointment is on the 11th April. My wifes sister went to find the Por Kor 14 in our house but its either grown legs or it was never issued

So....

Do we REALLY need to include the Por Kor 14?

Can it be obtained from the Thai Embassy in London?

Please don't say she has to go back to Thailand and do it

If it helps -

The biological father has never been involved in his daughters life. No contact whatsoever.

With regards to sole responsibility - the two main pieces of supporting evidence we are showing are 1. Western Union money transfers for her daughters upkeep (not sure if that's more maintenance or sole responsibility) 2. A letter from the private school her daughter attends. More of a reference letter to her mum confirming how long her daughters been there and how much its cost her. 3. I also hoped that by her mum went going back to Thailand in 2013 and got her daughter a Thai passport might help too.

Other than that she speaks with her daughter/sister/mother daily via Skype calls so no real way of showing choices shes made ie telling her mum to take her daughter to the dentist/telling her sister to buy new school uniform for her daughter. All of this is done via calls.

A P.K. 14 is not, as such, a legal custody document; it is more a quasi official record of the child's life.

It can only be obtained the child's local ampur; but your wife does not have to go; the child's current carer(s) can do so.

A P.K. 14 is not essential for a child settlement application in Thailand; but the ECOs there do know the score and it can certainly help. Especially in cases where there may be some doubt over custody/responsibility. I'd include one if possible.

Obviously it is impossible to include the contents of phone and Skype conversations etc.; indeed, unnecessary. All that you need do is say that such conversati0ons have taken place, and provide evidence, such as phone bills, where possible.

I concur with 7by7 on this. The only thing I would add is that having done a visitor visa last year and a settlement visa application 2 weeks ago for my Thai step daughter the first thing they ask for at The Trendy Building is the PK14. We have one and they were content. I don't know what they would do if you didn't have one as it is not their job to comment on an application but the very fact that they are so hot on this suggests that it does carry some weight when the application is being reviewed. They seem to treat it with the same importance as passport photograph and copies of passport. They even moved the original from my wife's application pack to my step daughter's pack so I would most certainly do everything you can to get one. I would also add here that they are issued at the discretion of the officer in charge of the ampur and we had some difficulty getting it. The lady in charge at that time had a favourite word which was 'cannot' but perseverance prevailed.

The UKVI insist on a document that shows that the sponsoring parent has custody of the child applicant. That could be a (divorce) court order ( Kor Ror 6) or the Por Kor 14 issued at an amphur.

What document did your wife provide when the child's passport was issued ? Normally some evidence of custody must be shown by the parent/guardian.

Really sorry if I wasted your time sad.png my wife had a search of the house done again via a Skype video call and they found what we believe is the KP14!!!!! thumbsup.gif

It doesn't say its a KP 14 on it but neither does the one you can download from the Thai Embassy website.

It details how my wife will be sole custodian of her daughter and it was signed by herself, her mum, the village headsman and the amphur office. I presume that means its what we've been looking for.

From reading your comments I'm glad we found it too - could be the item that helps make the crucial decision.

Thanks very much for taking the time to help smile.png
