Fruits, seafood and ready-made meals are more expensive in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 19 Mar 2015 (NNT) - The Cabinet has acknowledged the issue of high commodity prices despite the fallen fuel prices. Meanwhile, findings revealed fruits, seafood and ready-made meals being offered in the capital are more expensive than in rural areas.

Government Spokesperson Capt. Dr. Yongyuth Maiyalarp quoted a report from the Ministry of Science and Technology as saying that 52% of Thai households earn just the exact amount to pay their daily bills, only 12.3% are able to make a regular saving, and 35.7% earn less than what they are paying out. He said people in the last group solve their problem by resorting to loans from various financial sources.

The report indicated that 41.3% of people in the Northeast were earning less than their expenditure, the rate higher than other regions.

The Spokesperson said 59.8% of the residents still find that the commodity prices in February remain the same despite the drop in fuel price. The Captain stated that the majority of the people set to become more frugal in dealing with the problem. He also indicated that generally 49.1% of items being offered in Bangkok are more expensive than in other provinces.

Captain Yongyuth said items that people want the government to keep its eyes on are pork, rice, cooking oil, ready-made meals, fertilizer, eggs, and seafood.

35.7% earn less than what they are paying out.

More than one third of the Thai population... that's not a good sign. Going into debt usually results in problems all the way around.

Ready made meals suffer twice, once the price, next the poisonous factory quality. Ready made food in the street!!

I'm always thoroughly shocked at the prices when I go into Tops. What is even more startling is all the hugely expensive imported foods. Not just

ridiculous biscuits. A little cup of yoghurt, b45. Cheese is just silly expensive. Reconstituted milk, 2x the price in US. Bakery prices are outlandish. Alcohol prices are sky high. It all has to fail, seriously.

The money is obviously not getting on to the farmers.

Seafood? There is no decent seafood here any more, lol.

Its no surprise that food, fruit and almost everything else is more expensive

in a capital city ,i would think that would apply to the whole World,in the rural

areas people earn less money,so prices of most commodities should be lower.

The Government needs to realize prices of food never comes down,it does not

matter if the input prices are lower, just means more profit for the sellers.

Bought a fish in Rayong the other week at a market by the beach...100 Baht...plus 50 Baht to have it grilled right there....best fish you can get....yup Bangkok is expensive.

Same would be true of anywhere really...if you want cheap fruit go buy from an orchard.

good god

is the oil price goes back to normal, we can expect an increase of 30% or more

remember the argument retailers and food manufacturers were making, oil price going up so we have to raise the price of food, now it has dropped by more than half....all silient

Keep them broke, uneducated, and unarmed..........Perfect way to hold on to power and suck the life out of the country.

remember the argument retailers and food manufacturers were making, oil price going up so we have to raise the price of food, now it has dropped by more than half....all silient

but if oilprice goes back to normal,

the food price will be up for the same 50%,

and the GVT ???

they will investigate and ask the stall owner, please lower the price,

thats all;

and the stall owners will tell, they getting poorer every day !!

35.7% earn less than what they are paying out.

this is the goverments plan to encourage them to sell their children into the hands of the human traffickers/prostitution brokers.

It would help if the General tells them to show the prices openly. Fishvendors show the price for the cheapest seafood but the big fish never have a price in Bangkok. Same with fruit, cheap fruit has a price shown but not the best fruit.

If prices are shown we are able to compare them and go to the cheapest vendors. Personally i won't buy anything if the price is not shown, would rather pay more to an honest vendor.
