I nominate Tim Berners-Lee for giving us the World Wide Web.

A very good nomination, probably done more to influence modern mankind than anyone else.

I've always reckoned Mrs Berners-Lee beats her husbands brains out on a regular basis due to him not copyrighting a thing !!

I'm sure she's not too hard on him. He's worth $50m

Without thinking twice, I would say Margaret Thatcher.

Sorry, she's dead, but still she is the greatest for me.

A disgusting cretin of a woman who lied through her teeth and worked hard at robbing the country.

Just consider Hillsborough where she would now be sitting in a prison cell for her deceit along with her cronies of the day.

Scum and proud of it?

Just pure evil.

did my little joke go over your head dear boy ? rolleyes.gif

You really need to be careful when using such language Soutpeel. You should be safe on this thread but the last time I recall you using the term "dear boy" someone mistook your use of English term of endearment for the more sinister term "boy!" which in another culture would have been used by a plantation owner when talking to a slave.

If I remember correctly he tried to accuse you of being racist whilst voicing his indignation that you may have mistaken him for somone of African decent. To coin a phrase from our American cousins, "go figure".

Prince George Louis of Cambridge. Why?

1) looks nothing like his grandfather

2) the only future king with no blemishes on his past (not counting dirty nappies)

3) adored by all humans not just the Brits

4) has not been humiliated by the press

5) has not said a thing controversial

6) comfortable sitting on pippa middleton's lap with no ulterior motive (not yet!)

Hail the future king of England, the greatest Englishman alive.

I don't adore him and certainly don't want him as a king of Scotland. I doubt if there will even be a King of England when he grow up.If there is, it'll probably be a foreigner.

Sorry to disappoint you but if little George ever becomes king it will be of both Scotland and England. You do know that when the crowns united it was the Scottish king that became the king of both Scotland and England? One little minor victory for us Scots. We don't get many so we should gloat about that one.biggrin.png

Living and man may disqualify her, although she had more of a man's tackle than aplenty.

I do not think I will read this thread further as mention of Maggie brings a lot of bitterness forth.

Rolf Harris.

Considering his recent conviction for massive Pedo charges, I have to ask,do you follow world news? and wasn't he Australian? or is that suppose to be the joke?

due of your above mentioned restrictions i will refrain from answering...wink.png

I'm not going to refrain from answering. Out of the OPs five "greatest" Englishmen, three of them have "Sirs" in front of their name. It's about time the UK joined the 21st century and got rid of those stupid titles which belong back in the 18th century and earlier and also the "wiggies" who prance about British courtrooms like transvestites.

"Sir" Bob Geldorf just shows how low those titles have sunk.

Transvestites - thought you meant those walking talking shortbread tins in their wee tartan skirts and little swinging sporrans, with their snazzy white stockings for a moment,

If you came from the north of England or Jockland you wouldnt be saying that.....Happy days when she pegged it.

Like it or not the UK was the sick man of Europe when she was voted in. Turned that around. Just wish she'd achieved it without completely screwing most of our manufacturing industries.

Then came Blair the fair and his financial whiz kid Gordon Goldfinger Brown. And what a legacy they left.

You think Blair the rock cake and Goldfinger Brown any better?

They fooled more people for properly a bit longer. Gordons sell off of the UK Gold when prices were low, and they're handing over financial management and oversight to those nice bankers were master strokes. Anyone want a Lordship - Tony's got plenty to sell.
