Private Health Insurance & National Social Fund

I have my own company and deduct an amount every month for the national social fund so I have medical benefits from a designated hospital. I also pay for private medical insurance with BUPA

Can I opt out of the national scheme without jeopardising visa & work permit applications in future? Certainly, if I do get ill I'll use the BUPA, so it seems a bit daft to be paying twice.

Do check with your accountant but I'm sure you cannot opt out of the Government scheme.

I don't think you can as it is a compulsory payment, a bit like the National Insurance in the UK or Medicare in Australia.

Bupa is pretty good, but I'd also check out Thai Health, who also do some pretty competitive deals and offer more coverage for similar money.

Please check the ThaiVisa/AA Insurance site : http://insurance.thaivisa.com/

The ThaiVisa Scheme is underwritten by Thai Health so it is far more competitive than you will ever get from Thai Health direct or through other Brokers.

With BUPA, ThaiVisa/AA Insurance can also beat any published price so may we suggest using ThaiVisa for all your insurance needs ?

Checked out the site.

12,683 for a 1 Million coverage for 1 year seems passable.

Is it the same price for young and old people?

Can my friend get anything cheaper considering the following:

Only 33 years old

Healthy

Can accept lower coverage than 1 Million.

*But 1 Million would be nice if it was cheaper considering his age and health.

He's currently paying only about 6,700 per year but for lower coverage of 300,000 with ThaiHealth.

I was thinking of getting the same plan as him.

Cheers :o

We would say 12,683 Baht is so ‘passable’ that you will not beat it ! Seriously, this an extremely good offer for Thai Visa members and for a basic, low cost, medical insurance this is a must for anyone who may not have the budget for ‘Full Cover’.

Your friend – very strange as he is being overcharged by some 2,000 Baht – suggest he contacts us before his renewal.

Young and healthy – excellent – now is the time to start your insurance NOT when you are old.

No, you can't get out of paying for the government coverage. The only way you can get out of it is to quit your job and go to work somewhere else. The employer has to deduct the premium from your pay. If you don't want the coverage, just consider the cost as a small reduction in pay. Then, get, or continue, the coverage you want.

If Soc Sec is compulsory, how does changing jobs help?
