Lite Beer
Total lunar eclipse observable from Thailand on 4 AprilBANGKOK, 28 March 2015 (NNT) – The public will be able to observe the only total lunar eclipse of this year in Thailand on 4 April 2015, says the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand. The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) has revealed that the earth is now on course towards its first eclipse this year, with a lunar eclipse set to occur on 4 April 2015, 15 days after the previous solar eclipse of 20 March 2015. The public is invited to observe this astronomical phenomenon during the evening of 4 April. The upcoming lunar eclipse will be the first and only full lunar eclipse observable from Thailand in this year. The eclipse will occur for 209 minutes, or 3 hours and 31 minutes. The moon will be shadowed entirely by the earth’s umbra for 5 minutes. The eclipse will be the 30th eclipse from the total of 71 eclipses in the 132nd Saros Series. The previous eclipse in this Saros Series occurred 18 years ago on 24 March 1997.NARIT has also unveiled the photograph of the solar eclipse of 20 March 2015 over Longyearbyen in Norway, taken by NARIT’s astronomy Thanakrit Santikunaporn, who recorded the entire event. -- NNT 2015-03-29

Popular Post seajae
3 hours and 31 minutes is 211 minutes not 209 minutes, this reporter need to learn to count but it is typical of the thai schooling system to be this good at maths or even english for that matter, a time would have been helpful but I guess that wasnt important enough for the story

Moonrise 18:26h. End of partial eclipse at 20:44h. 2 hours and 18 min at best.

Popular Post jollyhangmon
So will it be dark outside when this event takes place? I mean completely dark. Nope, i'm afraid. Mankind long since managed to change 'darkness' into 'not-even-halfdarkness' in big areas of the ball in a way that already negatively affects health / lifecycles of animals (including us monkeys of course) as well as plants (mainly blooming ones), especially up higher nord/down south ... It's called light pollution and we - once more - did a 'good' job there ... So if you're not located fairly far out in the sticks - which is preferable anyway - you'll need to use the solar-eclipse-protective-glasses for lunar eclipse, maybe you get real darkness then ...
MrWorldwide
Finally, something exciting happens on my birthday. My favorite freelancer just rang me to tell me she's going back to the province ('no customer') and I'm wondering how I'm going to endure Pnomh Penh during the hottest month of the year, but an eclipse on your birthday has to be a good sign, right fellas ? Er, fellas ? <sound of chirping crickets>
ToneG
We had an 85% Solar Eclipse here in the UK the other week Magnificent pictures on TV but as usual the weather here spoiled it complete cloud cover couldn't see a thing. Just got a bit dark and cold. Hope you don't get cloud in Thailand to spoil the show.

It only turns into a good sign tapping your wallet against a banana tree during the occurrence, no need to do it the full 3h but best during the time when the Moon is fully covered with the Earth shadow. I'm surprised it was still above the horizon at that time as it rises at around 6 pm at the moment. Were you facing east or west?
Seastallion
I'm looking forward to this. My soi is a dead end, and runs east-west, with the closed end at the eastern end and no visual obstructions to the distant mountains. Always get a great sunrise or moon rise. I'm surprised it was still above the horizon at that time as it rises at around 6 pm at the moment. Were you facing east or west? It was above the horizon (and I was up on the ground ). Of course it sinks to the west (like the sun). And it was orange/red. Some theories exist why, but I am undecided Yesterday evening almost full moon rising in the east shortly after sundown. Around full moon, the moon kind of follows the sun. The sun sinks in the west and the moon rises in the east. Makes sense when you are close to an eclipse (exactly opposite). It was also quite orange/red on the rise.
Popular Post Chonburiram
There are few situations that can cause a red Moon. The most common way to see the Moon turn red is when the Moon is low in the sky, just after moonrise or before its about to set below the horizon. Just like the Sun, light from the Moon has to pass through a larger amount of atmosphere when its down near the horizon, compared to when its overhead. The Earths atmosphere can scatter sunlight, and since moonlight is just scattered sunlight, it can scatter that too. Red light can pass through the atmosphere and not get scattered much, while light at the blue end of the spectrum is more easily scattered. When you see a red moon, youre seeing the red light that wasnt scattered, but the blue and green light have been scattered away. Thats why the Moon looks red.
