Popular Post Cypress Hill
Apart from being one of the most overused phrases by foreign males in LoS, much of the time, the second-class status inferred by the "walking ATM" description is thoroughly deserved. Pretty much every Western man who comes here knows that his greater perceived wealth will open more "doors" with the locals and, unsurprisingly, they use it to their advantage; particularly with the women. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that but what astonishes me is just how many of these men, upon developing feelings for a Thai woman, expect that the tenure of the relationship should morph from one based almost entirely on financial security into one based on typical Western values; you know, physical attraction, common interests, compatibility . . . all that good stuff. When the financial demands persist, they roll out the pathetic "We're just walking ATMs" refrain despite having pretty much presented themselves as such from the outset. Why do they expect Thai women to "Come for the money but stay for love"?

At least you are big enough to admit it Costas, but there are some overweight, tattooed, facial haired, ugly guys with plenty of money, come over here, find a Thai girl about half his age, she then tells him she loves him, and he is stupid enough to believe her.

Cypress Hill
Why can't they just say no ? Am pretty sure no one holds a gun to their heads when the requests are made. Sure but refusal often results in the woman getting upset and ending the relationship which is when the man complains about being seen only as an ATM. cgphuket
Funny how the Western men who brag (usually to bar girls) about their houses, cars and vast wealth, then turn around and complain people want their money. Can't have it both ways.

Popular Post ScarpoFongness4U
Sadly, I watched the Thai girl I was with be verbally assaulted by her mother and brother and saw her go to the ATM and use her cell phone to cover their debts, buy them cell phones, and otherwise be their slave. I asked her how long did she think she could go on providing them all this income when she got older and had no one taking care of her... Watching her tears pour from her face as she explained how it was up to her to take care of them no matter how horrible her life was going to be as an aging soapy, was an eye opening experience for me, as it didnt matter how many properties they accumulated, they were always expecting more from her, and she would never say no to them. I asked her how she could ever expect a man to want to be with her under those circumstances and all she kept repeating was, how I didn't understand how destitute they were, before she started "working" 7 years in, she owned 3 housesz on in bkkz two fully paid for in the north that her family lived in, and one she collected rent on, And she only had one decent pair of shoes, no sneakers and a sad excuse for a wardrobe when I met her. I helped while I was there but each time I would bring up getting her finances under her control and not her mother, she would proudly state that she pays all her mothers bills, and she was making sure her mom was set as she got older (50)// and she was making sure her brother's son went to school and had nice clothes, and then, When I asked her how she would manage that if she had her own children, she again broke down, and admitted it may not happen for her This goes both ways which is why I wrote this. The girls are the ATM's for their family. It is important for people to understand, this hurts them as well, and more as when we go to the ATM it is for spending cash and bar fines, When they go, its A Lifeline that they cannot cut; but we can, and frequently do. I side with the girls every time on this issue as we can choose, they, can not
Popular Post ramrod45
I would agree quite a bit with ScarpoFongness4U. I have read and heard that once you begin making monthly support payments to a girl, who in turn gives most of that money to her family, and then you stop giving the money, her family still expects to receive those monthly amounts, and so your sweet girl now has to try and work another job, find another generous farang, something, to keep providing. Family "wants" can apparently be quite strong strings. I know a lot of Filipina OSW's that barely see their family, work hard, send most of their money back, and their family sits around, doing nothing, drinking whiskey, because the daughter is paying for everything. No concerns about the girl. It seems the expectations are understood by each side, in often a sad sort of way. On a lighter note, I have always found this "letter to a farang" to be quite amusing! Dear Farang.I write this letter to you. Have to tell you now have big problem at my home Nakon Nowhere.Buffalo sick and can not get rice from Field. My father need 3,000 baht for medicine to make buffalo good again. My brother me fall down the well for water and he break leg, cannot help my father same.Need 5,000 baht for borrow, good man help my father. Now my mother stay hospital and my baby also, both have danger feber from drink water, no good after my brother fall down well.Grandmother have motorbike accident, hit four chicken in road, but chicken fled scene, so have no one pay for her in hospital, next bed my mother and baby, want 4,000 baht for her.Sister in monkey house for make sex show in Bangkok, have to pay 200 baht everyday for food she, but police say no problem, give 20,000 baht sister can go free.Young brother go hospital to cut for be ladyboy, need 10,000 baht for operation.I think easy if you send 100,000 baht to me, can send my bank at Mangdar Bank. Now you stay your country.I know that I stay with you only one night, but you number one man from all 35 I go with last month. Now I know it you I love too much and I think of you everyday, I go room after disco.P.S. Please send photo, so I can remember which one you.

Popular Post dao16
Well, it doesn't seem so strange to me. My wife expects me to support the family. It is a more traditional society. Actually, even in the US, you don't have to go back that far to hear similar things said in a more euphemistic way. People of my parents' generation (baby boomers, so born in the decade after WWII) will often say things like "I stayed with your dad because he was a good provider." Believe me, I have heard that a ton from people of that era. So, here in Thailand, the women are looking for "good providers." Now, they may misunderstand how much money you have or you may run into a truly horrible human being who really does want to milk you for all you're worth....the later is certainly a reality. But I know plenty of people here, myself included, who have wives who expect to be provided for but who will step up and help out as they can. Find one of those. Maybe not so easy, but they are around. EDIT--Here you go....this is from just a few years ago...maybe you are familiar with the series. Popular Post realenglish1
I have been with my wife for more than 7 years and she rarely if ever asks me directly for money. She works and has a good job Yes I take her shopping once in a while I pay for most of our vacation together although she does kick in 10 to 15,000 baht into the spending money. I pay most of the domestic bills but she never asks for money . Never has Our relationship is not based on what I have financially. She is 35 and I am coming on 62 She is a very good looking woman who turns heads when she walks in a room and she could have chosen a young rich guy But she chose me Not all Thai woman look at farang as walking ATM machines I would say many poor Isan woman do but the I do not find this the case with Educated Thai woman . Next time you want to date a girl ask here what her level of education is This will help a lot If she is a farm girl watch it
