Materials for casting

Featured Replies

Where can I purchase or order material for making casts, specifically plaster and latex (rubber)?

I live between Chiang Mai and Rai so either location is fine, also it would be good if I could just order it.

Good quality plaster of paris is easy to get in Chiang Mai. Most places that sell art supplies have it, as well as many hardware stores.

Latex rubber for mold making I see in art stores from time to time. The problem with latex is that the mold has to be built up in thin coats to the desired thickness. Much better - and more durable - is silicone mold rubber that is mixed with a catalyst.

I haven't used it for years, but I could always get it at Likisin.

Here are some places you might check out for mold making supplies:

Udompon - the big one - on Ratwithi near the UN Irish Pub.

Likisin on Sri Poom between the Sri Poom Corner and Chang Puak Gate.

The Art Shop Professional Art Materials, 57/2 Srimangklachan, parallel to Nimmanhaemin.

Some of the B2S outlets around town have a good selection of art materials also.

Good luck with your projects.

World Chemical has a bunch of materials for making casts. Latex for sure but also other materials that I couldn't name off hand as I am not familiar with the process. But they had molds on display in different colors and materials with glitter to color them as well. It's on Mahidol Rd., I believe that's the name of the road.

That sounds like a good source.

Industrial supply houses would probably have more of what the OP needs than the art stores in Chiang Mai.
