Why is there nothing on TV forum about the storm yesterday?

Worst storm I can remember in years in Lamphun, roofs ripped off, trees down all over the place, cars smashed, traffic accidents and ZERO on TV C M forum ( or Thai news forum ) about it!

Can I assume then, that C M was not affected, so therefore it was of no consequence?

We got a bit of rain around the Nimmen area but not too much. It looked like we were in for a nasty one but it never materialized around here.

That's interesting. Only half an hour drive away and you missed it!

The trees outside our house were literally bent at right angles to the ground and I was afraid they'd break off.

Big C and Makro had roofs partly ripped off.

Power was out for hours because trees fell on the power lines.

I haven't been around everywhere, but some apartment dwellers have no roofs now.

Debris everywhere.

Even one of the traffic lights by the flyover got twisted around by the wind.

Who was that in a recent thread that said Thailand never got destructive wind storms??????

Pretty typical of storms in the north. Lamphun smashed and where we live in Hang Dong very little rain, some strong wind but by no means gale force.

More to come ,bit of a lottery.

CMU and Mae Hia very little storm activity. Bunch of thunder and a little rain. Severe storms are often highly localized.

HI

Storms are very local. I remember having a strong storm in Nong Hoy, and my friend , swimming near Thapae , never see a drop of rain, 2 km away from me.

Yesterday it was strong, yes, in Lamphun, (not the stronger one I have seen here), but again, some km apart and all can be different. This kind of storm during this season normally moves North-East, more to Mae On, etc ... This does not surprised me that Chiangmai was not affected.

Maybe the next one, you can follow it here : http://www2.tmd.go.th/radar/phsLoop2.php By the way, we have to follow radar from Phitsanulok as the one from Lamphun (covering Chiang Mai, Mae Rim and more) is offline for some months.

I'm in Wangchin, Phrae. We had a big thunderstorm, high winds and plenty of rain. No damage to be seen this morning. Took a ride out of town on my bike and within a few kms there were trees down and roofs off of buildings. Very localised.

Some of the damage around Lamphun. Guess we were lucky in Chiang Mai.

Thanks for the photos. Looks like it was worse in the old town than where I live.

Thing that strikes me about Thailand is- they have a lot of rain, but never seem to be able to deal with it properly. Every year get localised flooding. They dug a big drain in new part of Lamphun, but have let it become blocked, so it won't work properly w00t.gif .

I guess there is now.. Like with any topic, someone has to start it. smile.png

With that much damage I'd have expected something in the Thai news forum, but there was nothing.
