I'm American based in BKK and traveling to Sevilla for a business conference at the end of October. I want to take my Thai GF with me and our daughter (who has a US Passport and won't be a problem). I've read some posts on the forums about gents taking their Thai wives for extended times but not much on a short trip with a non married Thai. Anyone have experience with this to Spain? Am I a fool to think it's possible?

Oops! wrong forum... MODS can you move please... Sorry!

Jason,

I don't profess to have any knowledge of Spanish immigration law, but can perhaps advise in general terms on the basis that the principles of getting a visa for Western countries are pretty much the same.

If you wish your girlfriend to accompany you, she should demonstrate that you have business in Spain and that you will be returning to Thailand afterwards. Additionally, she will have to show that you are in a relationship and that you have sufficient funds for the trip. If she is working, she should also provide a letter from her employer which confirms that she is employed, her position, her salary, and how much leave she has. I think Spain might also require visitors to show that they have travel/medical insurance for the duration of the proposed visit.

Cheers,

Scouse.

Thanks Scouse, you're always a good source of info,

FYI, the Visa was approved in 10 days (Coup happened during the wait). It was relativly easy. I transferred 200,000 into her account and we filled out the application meticulously and met all requirements. Honestly, I'm happily surprised. She has no job, few ties in Thailand and no track record. We simply proved a lasting relationship and that her expenses were covered. I only wish the USA was as easy. We are off next week!

That's amazing! In fact your gf has probably a Schengen-visa with which you/she could travel in the other European Schengen-countries as well.

Did you apply at the Spanish Embassy ? (stupid question since you most likely did).

Happy trip !
