Are you thinking of the city of or some other part of Surat Thani Province?

Not one of the best Thai cities in Thailand...(IMHO) but the province offers some good choiceswink.png

Thank you both for your replies.

I was thinking of the town as gf lives there and it has all the normal shops.

Have been here a few days now on a visit and realise it is not Chiang Mai but I like the attraction of the beaches (Khanom) and I don't crave Farang company too often.

Again, many thanks.

When you go down to Khanom and a bit further you have a couple of very lovely beaches. Small and big ones......If you discover anything SCUBA related please contact me.....I am missing that......

(I stay in Khanom)

Sitting here with the Linux Laptop and Internet over mobile phone I have a hard time to figure out the beach names.

Will try to get the names when I sit on the bicycle again. (hopefully in the next few days)

I just went on the street closest to beach and went to the east (beach) whenever I found a street. Should be easy with a car or motorbike.

lived here in Surat Thani for a few years, not far from Central and quite like it, Like you I tend to stick to myself and only occasionally meet up with other farangs, if you are not into clubs/pubs etc its great. Have found some really top eateries and have lots of thai friends, heaps of places to see and visit not far away too, really is plenty to do if you like relaxing, the hot springs are a must too for some great relaxing/rejuvination
