i want to drive to loas from bkk i have british passport and only 1 month visa for thailand.can i drive to loas over friendship bridge and get visa for 14 days and come back to thailand and get my 1 month visa here thanks

You need the car's passport etc etc ... plus will have to get the Sticker ... and will have to get insurance for Laos (available at Immigration in Laos)

my belief is that this booklet/document establishes that it is in fact your car and that you are entitled to take it out of the country.

Personally having done this last January I'd just leave the car parked in Thailand and grab a ride from the other side into Vientian

Methink it's not worth to drive the car into Laos if you only go to Vientiane;on the other side,if you want to drive around the country,don't forget to tell at the Lao border (and pay),or you they will give you only permission to drive in Vientiane Municipality.It can be very costly if the Police stop you withaut the proper authorisation!
