Orange sweat yesterday- a first for me? Anyone else?

A first for me yesterday. Walking around in the heat (and it was hot in Kanchanaburi), I noticed my sweat was orange. My clothes are stained orange.

It's never happened before. Googled "orange sweat", and apparently, it's not unheard of (though I'm sure I could google "neon yellow sweat" and get some hits).

My clothes look pretty much the same as the ones on this pdf: http://www.ecardiologynews.com/fileadmin/qhi_archive/ArticlePDF/CT/081020167.pdf (Except I wasn't wearing a bra yesterday- or any day)

I'm hoping it was a change in my meds, or something I ate. I did finally succumb and took some oral rehydration salts yesterday- that I normally don't bother with.

Just curious, anyone else experience this in the Thai heat? Or is there a chemical plant around Kanchanaburi putting out orange chemicals into the air?

never heard of that....possible that just some brownish orange skin got rubbed off? Some skin that has residual from some sun protection?

Strange....

This is not common, but it does occur. I assume you had not applied any sunscreen or other slkin lotions that would account for this?

If not, then the condition is called chromhidrosis. While it van be caused by physical problems, such as elevated levels of bilirubin or iron in the blood, it is often idiopathic (no obvious cause).

If you have not had a physical check up in the past year or so, may be a good idea just to rule out an underlying abnormality.

Impulse,

My spouse and I experienced something similar--orange stains on our clothing (especially around collar and lapels--about 24 hours after your experience.

Like you and Sheryl, we've been quickly reading up on chromhidrosis and pseudochromhidrosis. This was a helpful starting point for us: http://health.howstuffworks.com/skin-care/problems/medical/chromhidrosis.htm

We were not in Kanchanaburi. Rather, we were between Hat Yai and Sungyai Kolok, on our way to cross the Malaysian border.

My spouses working theory? Pseudochromhidrosis caused by a dye in some less-than-naturally-prepared Thai iced tea. Traditionally the unique color of Thai iced tea comes from processing with tamarind. My spouse guesses a more intense, longer-lasting artificial dye was used instead of tamarind.

Did you drink any Thai iced tea in the 24 hours prior to your experience?

My working theory? There was some fine clay dust or iron oxide in the air. It got on our clothes skin and the normal sweat made something like mud that showed up on our clothes.

We haven't any scientific basis for our theories, they're just ideas.

Please keep us posted if your condition changes. We'll do the same.

Best,

Dragrider

You were not taking the weightloss drug DNP were you.. that is a dangerous drug in the hands of the inexperienced and does cause yellow sweat at times as its a coloring agent too.

Not accusing you.. just stating something i know that gives yellow sweat.

Perfectly legitimate question. I asked for input and I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Not taking any weight loss pills. I am on some relatively new (to me) meds for lowering cholesterol and BP.

After Sheryl's post, I'm planning to try an experiment with the suntan oil I was using. It's the same stuff I've used many times, but it may be a bad batch, or past its "sell by date", etc. Next time I go out to sweat a bunch, I'll put it on one arm only and see if that's the culprit.

Otherwise, I'm leaning toward Dragrider's iron oxide theory since K-Buri is mining country.

And to NancyL, I generally get in 3 showers a day on workdays and 4-5 a day on weekends. I can't really pack any more in, especially when I'm out of town being a tourist.
