94-year-old man finishes college after starting 75 years ago

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — A 94-year-old man will be one of the oldest graduates in the West Virginia University history when he receives his diploma Sunday.

The school says in a press release that Anthony Brutto, who studied on and off for 75 years, will be awarded his Regents Bachelor of Arts degree during commencement.

Brutto first entered the university in 1939 when tuition was $50. He was drafted in 1942, serving in the Army Air Corps until the end of World War II.

Brutto re-enrolled at the school in 1946, but could not finish because he had to care for his sick wife.

A machinist by trade, Brutto says graduating from college was always important to him. He jokingly says he'll take a break before pursuing a master's degree.

I don't know 75 years in University sounds like sort of waste of time.

He should get a degree in procrastination! But, all that nasty stuff said....Congratulations!

Cool!

94, and he's not wasting his life.

except that a college degree from a state university is still worthless...

Really? Its fantastic that he finally accomplished this feat. Congratulations to the old guy, and Im sure his life education combined with his degree makes him a 10X multiple of brilliance over you and your idiotic remark....

.

Yep.

At least he's not wasting what days he has left.

EDIT: Frankly, I'd love to sit down and talk with him. What a wealth of life he has to share.

EDIT 2: And frankly, Bangon, with a name like "Tony Brutto," even at 94, he could probably kick your a$$.

Admirable.... what a cool guy.

He jokingly says he'll take a break before pursuing a master's degree.

Now he can come to Thailand, work as a teacher and sire a couple of Luk Kreungs. He should be dead by the time teaching license waiver problems crop up.

What nonsense. Don't know if that is from ignorance or bad experience. Example, U of C Berkeley is ranked number 4 world wide including private and public universities, just under M.I.T. private college. There is a long list of US public universities (state) that are well up in the list of top ranked world schools.

Kudos to him for going the mile.

Well, I doubt he's going to use it to get a job.

Congratulations.

Old diamonds never rust.

+1...I hope it adds happiness to his life.

now it is time to find a job

It took him 75 years to save up enough money to attend college...much like the college grad of today...it will take them 75 years to pay off their student loans...

The government loves the student loan program...keeps the mass of college grads beholding to the government and in a lower middle class economic status for most of their working careers...

Hurray for the US govt...our saviors....
