Last time I lived in Chiang Mai I went to what is now the Anantara. Is there a newer nicer place in town?

I'm only looking for a decent 5 star hotel gym/spa and the price doesn't really matter.

Thanks!

I can't remember the name of it. (I think it is the Lotus not sure) The hotel right next to KSG was recommended every so often. Last Thursday I dropped in to have a look and they said it was closed for remodeling and would be open next month. Should be pretty decent.

Yes, the Orchid next to Kad Suan KEAW is currently closed for repairs. A group of us used this for a long time, and tolerated the sauna being ever-so-slowly refurbished. At the speed the builders were working, it will be a while yet.

Behind it is the Lotus Hotel, which seems to be part of KSK. I tried the gym for a week, but an early start is not possible, and the sun heats the place up a lot. Air con goes on when there's a few clients. The pool is Olympic size ++, but there appeared to be few shady spots for a quiet read after a swim.

The Fitness centre at the Furama complex along Huay Keaw Rd near the Nimman intersection, looks good and a few of our gang moved there for the duration. Pool is nice. Cost is ok.

A word of warning that neither of the hotels mentioned are anywhere near five stars and are older hotels. In the same area, I know the Eastin in front of Maya(the mall has a fancy gym on the upper floor) is new but again far not a five star experience. Powerhouse gym which is one of the nicer gyms is quite close to the Eastin. I think the ShangriLa on Changklan Rd would be pretty good and the gym looks ok in the picture, it's not new but truly five stars.

Thanks for clearing up the name. It should be nice when completed. How long they maintain it is another question. As for the Furama complex are you talking about hillside 4?

The OP did not make it clear if it was just the gym he was interested in or the hotel also. I recall looking at the ShangriLa. It was a nice looking gym but I thought a bit small. Can't remember the equipment. Might be worth checking out. Definitely had a nice pool.

The Rati Lanna has a very nice pool with loungers and umbrellas and the gym is OK, with lots of treadmills, bikes, elleptical machines and weight machines etc. It has a steam room a sauna, showers, lockers, towels provided etc.

It's about 12,000 annually I think, there are 6&3 month plus daily rates.

It's certainly not a gym for the 'iron men' we have on this forum, but there's enough there for general fitness level and it doesn't get crowded.

It's certainly 5* and the Princess sometimes stays there when in Chiang Mai......if that's important for you.

Thanks for the suggestions. I probably won't find exactly what I'm looking for which is a five star hotel with a gym that has purchased the Technogym or Life Fitness package of cardiovascular and weight training machines.
