Army chief says Yala bombings linked with criminal activities and politics

BANGKOK: -- Army commander-in-chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr yesterday indicated that politics, different ideologies, drug and human trafficking were linked in the spate of bomb explosions in Yala during the past three consecutive days.

The army chief and also defence deputy minister voiced his belief while making an inspection trip to the deep south on Sunday after over 20 people were injured and several houses were gutted in over 30 small bomb incidents in Yala since Friday.

Gen Udomdej Sitabutr said Yala’s inner town has left with no explosion for a long time, thus making security officials to have confidence of safety.

This resulted in a gap that perpetrators used to launch a spate of bomb attacks, he said.

He did not point the exact cause of the attack as he wanted full investigation to be finished first.

But he viewed that he couldn’t help to suspect political issue was a part of the violence.

He said as politicians vowed they wanted to help restore peace in the country on one hand, but on the other they also supported violence and criminal activities in the South because of the common interest that was involved.

Gen Udomdej said local politics, along with drugs and human trafficking have complicated the southern insurgency as all were linked or interrelated, as long as personal aims arise.

But he assured tha problems would not stop the government’s plans to restore peace in the deep South.

Meanwhile Royal Thai Police deputy commissioner Pol Gen Chaktip Chaichinda said the police were tracking down the bomb attacks, mostly teenagers and believed there was a hidden agenda in the attacks because they planted many bombs near electricity posts, apparently to make them fall and cause a blackout.

Fortunately, a blackout did not occur, Gen Chakthip said.

The bombings caused widespread damage to assets, initially estimated at 10 million baht.

Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Somyot Phumphanmuang also said there was hidden agenda in the bomb attacks and rule out insurgency as a cause, citing different types of bombs used.

He didn’t elaborate.

He must have someone on the inside to have such keen situational awareness.

After all it could have been put down to other causes.

Extreme pranking?, maybe drunken hijinx?

Or a mistaken fireworks show?

Wow, he's a smart cookie; I wonder how long it took him to figure that out?

Born in sin, come on in. This is nothing short of generations of people who know nothing else and they continuously see the criminal elite getting fatter off their criminality, including all those the Gen listed. It's amazing how they think this nation is superior; I guess it is if you consider criminal activities and the constant political divide achievements.

The 39 bombs in Yala this weekend happened after all the Thai human trafficking camps were found to be...empty, and only a few small fish were caught in the fisheries/slavery scandal, and then those victims (whose money is already in Thailand) were pushed back to sea....or arrested.

No kidding it is all related....numb skulls.

The PM said the Rohingyas would be taking Thai jobs if allowed to work here, but they are missing an opportunity altogether here (and, besides, they are allowing large numbers of workers to have work permits here already). They are missing out on a very good opportunity.

Rather than let the guilty walk free and arrest the innocent, grant them work permits and let them legally work here (instead of arresting victims). Don't make them citizens -- just let them be productive people.

The reason it won't happen is the junta are terrified that some Reuters reporter will start asking the Rohingya questions, and the Thai Navy and captains of the Thai fishing industry will be uniformly and strongly condemned by the international community.

"politics, different ideologies, drug and human trafficking were linked" in the explosions

IN OTHER WORDS

He has no freeking idea what is happening. The military hasn't any control despite their touted Thung Yang Daeng model.

Gen. Prayut has said the government's handling of violence in the deep South was more effective because it had been carried out in an integrated manner under a road map worked out under his guidelines. Prayut must be using his roadmap to democracy - about as unsuccessful.
