Lite Beer Posted May 22, 2015 Share Posted May 22, 2015 BT8.2 MILLION FOR QUAKE VICTIMSThe Nation BANGKOK: -- Nation Multimedia Group has raised almost Bt8.2 million for victims of the Nepal earthquake.In simultaneous ceremonies in Bangkok and Kathmandu yesterday, the money was given to Unicef and the Kantipur National Crisis Assistance Trust. Nation Multimedia Group advisor Suthichai Yoon delivered the donation to Unicef Thailand representative Bijara Rajbhandari at Nation TV headquarters, while group editor-in-chief Thepchai Yong flew to Kathmandu to hand the money over to the Trust. The Kantipur Group, publisher of the Kathmandu Post, will transfer the donation to the Nepalese Prime Minister Relief Fund.Like The Nation, the Kathmandu Post is a member of the Asia News Network.More than 8,000 people died in the devastating earthquake which hit Nepal on April 25. Millions have been left homeless and the economy is shattered. The Thai public has been forthcoming in supporting Nepal with many fund-raising events organised over the past month. Nation Group staff have joined the Dr Thiem Chokwattana Foundation, the Pueng Thao Kong Ma Shrine, Coast Bangna and many other organisations, communities and individuals that have donated money for the earthquake victims.Nation Group is the publisher of The Nation, Krungthep Turakij and Kom Chad Luek newspapers. It's great that the Nation came up with something, but in the grand scheme of things it's a shamefully small amount of giving for Thailand's rich.
