BANGKOK: -- The cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a new tobacco products bill which seeks to tighten up the sale of tobacco products or cigarette to minors and at public places and cigarette promotion.

Iraq begins operation to oust Islamic State from Anbar

Thailand Automotive Institute tones down car production target for 2015

Transport Ministry will propose a modified route in MRT orange line

PEA to hold energy-saving exhibition in November

BANGKOK, 27 May 2015, (NNT) - Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and N.C.C. Exhibition Organization Co., Ltd. (NEO) have collaborated to organize a third energy-saving innovation exhibition from November 19 - 21, ahead of the ASEAN Economic Community.


Deputy Director of the PEA’s Planning and Developing Division Theerawut Watkitpaisan said the fair is called ‘PEA presents EcoLight Asia 2015,’ and will be held at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

Mr. Theerawut said there will be two other exhibitions scheduled later this year, which are ‘C-Tech 2015,’ a show promoting coolant systems and air conditioning, and ‘Solar-Tech 2015,’ a show promoting solar power innovation and technology.

The Deputy Director said the PEA has been the main supporter of the three exhibitions for over two years now. He added that the the fairs helped expand business negotiations in the energy sector by 54 percent and generate 200 million baht in trade.

He expected the shows this year would draw 5,000 - 8,000 attendees, while generating 300 million baht in trade.

NRC to present their amendment cases next week before CDC

BANGKOK, 27 May 2015 (NNT) - The National Reform Council (NRC) has submitted all of its amendment proposals on the new constitution and will send representatives next week to appear before the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) make their cases on each proposal.


NRC Deputy Chairperson Tassana Boonthong said the CDC has allowed up to five representatives to speak on each amendment proposal.

She said the CDC will be best advised to incorporate the proposals into the second draft of the constitution as the NRC sees all of the proposals as critical to the improvement of the new charter.

Ms Tassana said NRC will wait until the second draft is completed before passing judgement and assures that the NRC has full autonomy in deciding whether to approve of the document.

Tanasak hopes all countries will share responsibility on Rohingya crisis without causing conflicts

Donations to be raised until Sunday

BANGKOK: -- The Thai government will continue raising money for earthquake victims in Nepal until Sunday, while also collecting donations of basic necessities until tomorrow, government spokesman Maj-General Weerachon Sukhontapatipak said yesterday.

He said the Cabinet set these deadlines after learning from the Nepalese government that the rescue mission had been completed. As for requests for specific aid, such as medical assistance, Prime Minister GeneralPrayut Chan-o-cha called on related agencies to get on the job and set the time frame to July 31, he added.

Probe is underway on Rohingya association and foundation

BANGKOK: -- Army commander-in-chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr stated Wednesday that security authorities are now carrying out investigation of association and foundation set up by Rohingya people in the country.

His disclosure came after Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha voiced concern over the Rohingya migrants’ conditions and advised security authorities if association and foundation set up by Rohingya people living in the country had part in human trafficking.

Gen Udomdej said the police are probing these organisations and seeing to it that they were legitimately established or not.

They are also instructed to find out if any of them were involved in human trafficking, he said.

The army chief who is also deputy defence minister said the Armed Forces have set up the Operation Center for Patrol and Humanitarian Assistance to Irregular Migrants in the Indian Ocean (OCPHAM) to take care of the Rohingya problem and the Army has been designated to conduct patrol and check all entries by illegal migrants before sending them to the Internal Security Operation Command to process under the principles of human rights and international laws.
