Netflix on True Internet ISP

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I was on 3BB Fiber before, service was horrible after about 3 months complains they agreed to disconnect us. While I was on 3BB I managed to use Netflix via UnoTelly DNS. It worked like crap with my internet connection but it worked.

I recently switched to True Internet DOCSIS connection (while it also seems to perform very bad) the uno telly dns does not seems to be working anymore. I noticed when I go to Netflix it says your country is not yet supported. I have heard from other DNS providers that True uses DNS Hijacking therefore it doesn't work. Also heard of people going around it by putting their cisco routers into a bridge mode and using 3rd party router to get it to work. I do have spare router but not tried it yet.

What are your experiences? What DNS services to you use and which one work and how?

Haver you tried the Hola.org plugin?

That's what we use for Netflix.. completely free,

Yes, it seems to work as a VPN right? With VPNS I always had bad experience as it slows down the connection so much.

Besides I want to watch through my apple TV or PS4 in this case plugin doesnt work.

I have a paid HMA VPN membership but like the poster above I always use Hola for Netflix because it works perfectly, and you don't even have those 30 waiting seconds of VPN connection, it's almost instantaneous

Edit : don't know for Apple TV / ps4

I Have True and I use Netflix and Amazon. I use a service called Unlocator and it works like a charm. Cost I think was about 50 bucks a year.

Netflix can be iffy with regard to DNS. Are you watching it directly on your laptop or through a streaming box like Roku? This may be why you are experiencing issues with DNS lookup services. VPN always works although there are some speed degradation issues to deal with.

This is a fairly good primer on the subject from Unotelly:

You might also like to read the last comment from TallguyjohninBKK in this thread. He seems to have run into issues with DNS redirect services on True as well:

Well I think you answered your own question. I think 'if' you want to stay with True you will need a bridged router and try a DNS bypass. I'd suggest getting a DDWRT router, they tend to be easier to manipulate

Just tried unblock-us trial. Same issue, so it is definitely ISP. What a bunch of a....es. I will try to put cisco router in bridge mode and use 3rd party router. Have anyone tried this?

Anyone knows of any DDWRT routers for sale in Thailand? I just recently bought Tenda W309R+ Extended range 300 Mpbs wifi router. I dont think it has DDWRT feature. However some people said quote "Asus RT-N12 is based on this SOC so it should be possible " to flash firmware

Check on www.dd-wrt.com for a list of flashable routers, and the firmware download. If you're not comfortable with flashing it (remember bricking is always possible) buy a preloaded one. Amazon have many which will ship to Thailand.

Also flashrouters.com have a good selection.

Unlocator works on TRUE VDSL but I'm not sure about any other true service. I use true's VDSL 30MB with Unlocator and if I don't press the update button on Unlocator daily then Netflix and Amazon won't work.

AJBangkok Yes VDSL does not use hijacking but Fiber or Docsis does, I wonder if it is possible to ask them to put me in exception list. But this is Thailand Im sure new gov has something to do with this. Aren't there any supported DD-WTR routers for sale here in Thailand? I dont want to buy off amazon and pay all the import duties plus expensive shipping. None of my routers are compatible with the list on the website.

True uses transparent proxy and it makes it incompatible with dns unblock services.

Just buy a digitalocean 5$ vps and install a personal proxy at west coast usa location and watch netflix via proxy.

I use a Linksys E2500 with Tomato firmware over PPTP. Works beautifully, even with my Roku, and is user transparent.

OK, I have to ask the uncomfortable question:

Is a DNS server service like Unlocator a proxy? And aren't proxy servers illegal in Thailand? Or is it a grey area?

Would appreciate details on how you set this up. I just got True online with the Humax HG100RE router and cascaded behind it with a Linksys E2500 that I got in U.S. from Amazon. Setup trial with Unlocator but can not get to work on my windows 10 laptop. Unlocator support says True uses transparent proxy and only thing is to ask True to route around the proxy. I have not flashed the E2500 for fear of turning into brick. Is flashing the only way to make this work and if so, how did you setup the E2500.

Please help.

Jim

Hola does some very bad things to your network…google how they steal bandwidth from unsuspecting users…I have trashed that app long back.

If something is free, you are usually giving up something valuable.
