AFAIK only availability of sugar free drinks are the colas and even they are not available everywhere. There has just not been any market for them and the heat is not good for keeping them tasting well so shelf life is very short. Coke Zero seems to be one of the few normally available drinks - Pepsi Max much less so - and Diet versions seem to be only sold at foreigner shopping areas.

Thank goodness I like club soda (sold here as soda water).

It's the only diet fizzy drink I have found here other than Coke Zero. (But I never tried Makro) And sometimes, I just want cold and fizzy.

I thought this would be a fruit drink paradise, given all the "fresh fruit juices" available on the street, but they seem to be loaded with added sugar, as well.

Good luck with any sugar free pre-packaged drinks. Even some of the Japanese looking teas that advertise "no sugar" seem to still have some. There are a few that don't but they don't have any flavor, either.

I'd suggest getting some artificial sweeteners from most major grocery stores in the coffee/tea section and start learning to make your own ice tea and lemonade (or whatever) from scratch.

We can have the huge argument about artificial sweeteners on another thread, please. Short version: I'm sure all are bad for me. Some are worse than others.

yes there are ways around declaring sugar.....but when you look at the nutrition values you see it.

Soda Water with some lemon in it tastes good...but also boring after a while.

Most people drink to replenish - not for nutrition (get that in normal foods).

I find it much easier to drink a large glass of Coke Zero after my evening walk than water - they both replace my water content but the Coke is more pleasant to intake. At other times of day will enjoy water; but in less quantity each time.

coke is a terrible chemical mix.

Water is so boring that you never drink enough

beer is expensive

The question what to drink is always a bit of a problem for me

They seem to feel free to say "sugar free" if sweetened with high fructose corn syrup...

I go for either soda water or plain water to which a little bit of (genuinely) unsweetened lemon or other fruit juice is added.

you want to drink brominated vegetable oil ?

bromine displaces IODINE ...

Also as fig-pulp or grape juice concentrate (and some more).

These have no own taste anymore, just sugar. It is like you would call crystal sugar, sugarcane concentrate......

There is a lot thinking how to make the ingredient sound good. Worse at muesli. If it is not sweet people don't like it, if they write sugar, people don't buy it, so they dance around the word sugar....

I freely admit that I can't make out diddly squat from the Thai language nutritional labels.

Not that I'd believe them if I could...

Coconut water is good, I've been drinking a lot of it recently

I like mixing up the sachets of Royal-D Electrolyte beverage you can find in 7-11 and many pharmacies. Costs about 7 baht a sachet and I mix it very weak ,one sachet to two 600ml bottles of water.

Yes it does contain sugar, 2 gm glucose to 100cm3 (whatever that means), but it does not taste sweet so probably a lot less sugar than most other drinks.

Also good for sweating in this hot weather.

At our house in the South we have Coconut trees. Even the old coconut which wife tells "can not eat anymore", when opening and drink it fresh, is super delicious......10 times better than the supermarket coconut in Farangistan.

Never tried the packed one.

I have some sugar free Electrolyte for going with the bicycle. If sweating a lot (not on the bike) it is great as refreshment, mixed like 1/4 of the recommended amount in ice cold water licklips.gif

But I wouldn't drink too much of the salty electrolyte things. Don't know if it cause problems.

So I drink soda water only I don't drink any other soft drinks ( well maybe some fruit juice no added sugar )

How good is soda water for you? I know it has no sugar and all the other bad things but it contains sodium

So if I drink 2 bottles of soda water per day will it harm me ?

Fruit juice has more sugar than coke. Of course a glass doesn't harm but if you drink lot of it, be aware of the sugar.

Soda Water should not contain more or less sodium than normal water.

It is CO2 in it.

CO2 + H2O <-> H2CO3<->H(+) + HCO3(-)

HCO3(-) <-> H(+) + CO3 (2-)

But no additional sodium.

Thanks for the comments...I was after diet lemonade ....I like a shandy...beer and lemonade but wanting to cut down on the sugar....half beer half diet lemonade = half the calories....

yes the beer is also a problem for me.....problem is half the beer....double the drinks.....good for the kidney, no question....but same calories.

Tried to replace it with wine....but that sour strong wine in the heat of Thailand is not good for me....

Well....go to the market and buy the coconut....put it in the fridge so it gets cool. Open it.....Needs hours.

Electrolyte is mixed into water in seconds.

From Wikipedia

Nutritional value

In recent years, coconut water has been marketed as a natural energy or sports drink having low levels of fat, carbohydrates, and calories, and significant electrolyte content. However, the contents of primary electrolytes per 100 ml serving, sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium, are not particularly high, nor balanced. Further, marketing claims attributing health benefits to coconut water are not based on science and are disallowed by regulatory agencies, such as the United States Food and Drug Administration.[2]

In a 100 g (ml) serving providing 15 calories, the content of all essential nutrients falls below 10% of the recommended Daily Value (table). Specifically concerning its content of electrolyte minerals in a 100 ml serving, coconut water is a not a significant source of potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium (table).
