This is what the majority of people believed in an opinion poll conducted by Bangkok University’s research arm, Bangkok Poll.A total of 1,199 people from all regions were asked about the government’s lottery price control with 94.5 % saying they were aware of the strict enforcement of the 80-baht price control, and only 5.5 % said they didn’t know about the price control now in force.On the question of whether the price control will work efficiently after the enforcement, 53.2% said they didn’t trust it could work in the long run.It would work in the initial period, but in a longer term, overpricing will return.But 26.8% believed price control would work effectively in the long run, or at every lottery draw.Only 20% voiced uncertain if the control would work to stamp out overpricing at every lottery draw.Asked what is the main reason that obstructs price control to become successful, 56.8% saw lottery agents, while 55.9% blamed lottery vendors for overpricing in order to get higher margin.However 37.0,% said it was the buyers who were willing to pay higher prices, particularly lucky numbers and same lottery numbers coming in a set.With a question of whether they still preferred to bet in underground lottery draws after the state lottery price control is successful, 63.8% said they would continue to bet in the illicit lottery business as it is easy to buy (65.9%), has higher chance to win (52.3%), and is cheaper than state lotteries (49.8,%).36.2% said they would give up underground lottery bet.For a final question of whether online lottery could resolve overpricing, 56.8% said they believed it could resolve the problem, while 29.0% said it couldn’t solve the problem, and 14.2% were uncertain. Or to many fat cats missing their part of the pie with a system without middlemen?? Just as a guess, because a significant portion of lottery ticket buyers (aka mugs) are not computer literate, don't own a computer/smart phone, and/or a credit card. Just as a guess, because a significant portion of lottery ticket buyers (aka mugs) are not computer literate, don't own a computer/smart phone, and/or a credit card. Most of the Thais that I know have an ATM card which does not allow on-line purchases. But most of the buyers aka mugs visit a convenience-store from time to time!! Place online vending machines at those stores, customers pay cash for their tickets............ No need for internet access or credit cards................... Some of the current vendors are disabled rural poor who will be displaced by the online system. While alternative occupations exist for able-bodied vendors, the disabled, unless well educated, have few alternatives. If the current system was transparently and fairly administered, it is actually pretty good in many ways. Unfortunately that "if" is a hard one to crack here in Thailand. You get a ticket 400 thb because of wrong colour on the roof. The Phon Phisai police does this, but the same police oversees the cock fights twice a week 2 km off Phon Phisai towards FAORAI: Something for he army to look in to. Because the lottery in Thailand doesn't work in that way. In Thailand you have a 1 in 999 999 chance of winning the lottery.. Hence the lower 1st place payout. (One can increase the payout by buying more tickets with the same number). What you want is a system where you MIGHT win a bigger jackpot (rollovers etc) but a system where you have a 1 in 40 000 000+ (depending on numbers available for selection) chance. It's simple maths.
