There's another article published today about the dangers of eating raw fish in Isaan. The eating of plaa raa or roi plaa as the article refers to leads to a very high incidence of liver cancer. That together with the copoious amounts of lao khao drunk in this region leads to liver failure and often death.

My wife doesn't drink but she does like plaa raa occasionally although I have on numerous occasions told her of the dangers. The number of people dying in this area from 'rok daap' (bad liver) is phenominal. See.....
