Major Cineplex Group will launch branch in Laos

VIENTIANE: -- The Thailand-based Major Cineplex Group is launching their second out of country branch in Laos after having great success with their first out of country launch in Cambodia which has become the market leader, Lao News Agency reported.


This new world-class theatre in Vientiane will have “Huawei” as a named sponsor and be called “Major Platinum Cineplex by Huawei”.

“Major Platinum Cineplex is a joint venture between Major Cineplex Group and Platinum Cineplex, with Major having the majority share. It will be located on the 4th floor of the newly opened world-class Vientiane Center,” said Jim Patterson, senior advisor of business development of Major Cineplex Group.

He said the Lao cinema will contain about 1,150 seats in five halls and offer the best and brightest 3D picture available. The project will cover about 4,550 square meters and will offer other entertainment facilities. The initial fit out cost of 12.5 billion kip (over US$1.5 million) will ensure the highest level of equipment and finishing.

The cinema is scheduled to open at the end of July on the 4th floor of the Vientiane Center with the blockbuster film, the new Mission Impossible,” Patterson said.

Vicha Poolvaralak, CEO of Major Cineplex Group, revealed that its current 544 screens will be increased to an estimated 1,000 by the end of the decade. Of which, about 100 will be outside of Thailand where the company is based.
