Yep, Yellow songtaw starts parked at the start of the slip road from CM Gate to Hang Dong.

One on the left of this street shot.

Starts here at CM Gate, ends at the Buffalo Market just past San Patong.

Both ways every 5 minutes from 6am to 7pm.

Many also originate at the big market though. (Kad Luang). Look for the ones to Chom Tong (red destination sign I think), Thung Siow (green IIRC) and others.

Will also work to Big C Hang Dong and Makro Hang Dong, of course, for pretty much the same fare.

It's only 10 THB to Airport Plassa, 20 to HomePro, and I'm not sure about Tesco. It's a great way to get to Immigration and the airport, if you can walk a little. I wold say less than 1 Km to the Domestic Door at CNX. They actually roll, when full..so it can vary between 5 and 15 minutes. Seems like you rarely wait more than five coming back, and frequently there is one stopped at the intersection in front of the cop box, waiting for the light to change..so just get in, or ride standing up if it is full. They would likely offer their seat to many here. A very good cross section of Thai ladies riding, so consider a shower and shave. It's mostly very friendly. The biggest downside is that they quickly disappear in the late afternoon, but it is one of the few good uses for a Tuk-Tuk, because they are coming back from a long fare, and I've gotten them as low as 40 back to the City from Sony (near BWT).

Not true, they work to schedule and have to punch a time clock at various points along the journey.

If they fail to meet the set times, they don't get booked for any more runs.

I've been riding yellow for 9 years, off and on, but not much lately, never seen them punch anything except their horns. It did seem like when gas prices went high, they started waiting until they were really full to roll. It may be a case of them mostly filling before the scheduled time and that takes priority over any schedule...but it sure isn't every five minutes if they are empty. Blues are the only ones that I've seen with a posted time schedule (Lamphun).

This is (good) news to me; for more than a year I've been getting a red truck to Chang Puak bus station to pick up the yellow one to Hang Dong Road, when I forgot to ask Mr K for a ride, it will make it easier on the way there, but not on the way back if I have shopping to lug over the bridge.

From Chag Puak it's 10 baht as far as Tesco, and something silly like 17 baht to Big C and Makro - I always give 20 baht and I've never waited for the change even though they almost always try to give it to me; ironic that the other-than-red truck (only) drivers always get to keep the change because they've never once tried it on with me for extra money (I've often wondered if they are employed rather than working for themselves - twice when we lived around Chiang Mai Gate I had drivers get out of the cab and come after me to give me 10 baht change, now I make sure they know I don't want anything back).

Do you tell checkout girls to keep the change too?

And the petrol pump attendants?

I could be mistaken (I often am) but I think the yellow ones have a schedule from Chang Puak. Often I'll be told in broken English or sign language 6 minutes or 7 minutes - very precise, I'd imagine too precise for it to be made up on the fly on lots of occassions, so different people. They seem to leave in 6 minutes or 7 minutes too, which still surprises me even thoughit shouldn't. I refuse to get in until the key is turned, far too hot to sit in the back of a truck when they're not moving (even though this leads to 'Stupid farang didn't understand, I'll say it again slower and louder gigglem.gif).

Not a chance - everyone knows Brits don't tip tongue.png

Seriously though, the only thing that will ever persuade me to stand in the sun or the rain waiting for 2 or 3 baht in change is if they start trying it on, and then I will every time.

Don't some (unnamed) nationalities tip petrol pump attendants though? I'm sure that I've seen that before.

Just to clear something up....there are actually two sets of yellows....but, when we are talking about Hang Dong/San Patong/AP Plaza that is the real yellows, that aren't on a fixed schedule, but leave, when full, which is frequently. They usually make you get out at CM Gate, on the way back, but I've even been let off close to Yuparaj on occasion. The other Yellow, has green lettering on them, and is likely the ones at Chang Phuak...never ever seen one of them on HD road, and in 11 years, I have never been on one of them...they do exists, but that is not what the OP was about. So some posters should be a bit more careful when they state someone is not telling the truth; there is often an explanation for their own confusion besides possessing a double digit IQ.

I've definitely got onto Hang Dong yellows from Chang Puak on a very regular basis for more than a year (not for the last 4 weeks or so as we've been away) - regular as in 2 or 3 times a month. My husband has the capacity to say 'Can we go home now' several times a minute when being in the vicinity of a shop, so it really is much easier for me to take public transport to Tesco and Makro than ask him for a ride - even to the extent of having to catch 2 separate songtaews, cross the highway loaded down with shopping and wait around in the heat.

I've only ever been asked to get off before CP bus station once, and that driver stopped another yellow truck before he asked me to transfer to it. Things were a lot easier for a good while last year when the San Sai yellows were parked up at CP bus station, but then one day without warning (for me that is) those ones started parking up by Kad Luang instead of going to the bus station - I think I saw a comment about some road resurfacing or similar being finished and the corral point being back to the market instead of CP. Now I just get a red one from there. If not a direct schedule, there must be a maximum amount of time between departures, because I've always been told how long I'll have to wait for the next one to set off and I've often been the only person onboard. This is part of the reason that I've wondered if they are employed and get paid whether they have passengers or not.

I don't know about the colour of the boards on the yellows, but didn't even know that you could get them from Kad Luang until I read Winnie's post. Loaded up with shopping they wouldn't be of much use to me personally as it's too far to walk so I'll have to get a red truck anyway, but with empty bags it will be easier for me.

But, life's too short (and it's far too hot).
