I'm arriving in Koh Samui on Aug 4. I have a flight from DMK to NST and then take an arranged shuttle to Dongsak Pier and then a ferry to Lipa Noi. All of the shuttle transfers and ferry are included in the price of the ticket.

I know some of you are wondering why I didn't just take a direct Bangkok Airways flight from Swampy to USM? The difference in price was about 3,500 baht and I also love taking a ferry and seeing the beauty of the sea.

I wish I could say that I'm coming to Koh Samui for better reasons, but the truth is that I'm fat, and I'm tired of being that way.

I will be living and training 6 days a week at Lamai Fitness with Billy Orr. And this wont be a 2 week or 1 month holiday fitness trip. I'm looking at staying anywhere from 9 months to a year.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the Koh Samui community and offer a proper hello.

I'll be training 6 days a week and be off on Sundays. Could any of you experienced Koh Samui folks offer me any advice about living in Koh Samui?

Anyone know the best way to get from the Airport to Lamai, and what I should pay? Lamai Fitness might arrange a pickup, but I'm not sure, and I always like to have a back-up plan in case Murphy shows up.

It's nice to meet all of you. Hope I might someday get a chance to meet some of you good folks in person.

If I have read it right you are coming into Samui on the Raja ferry to Lippa Noi ? When you get off the ferry there will be both taxi's and Songthow's waiting but check the prices before getting in or on. Saying that if you are going to be giving a gym money to train there for a year and they aren't prepared to get you picked up I would suggest you picked the wrong gym.

Samui has its quiet parts and the touristy busy parts and enough of each to keep the long term stayer happy thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

Is it possible for someone who is only on a short holiday to come do some training there? Just something general to improve fitness.

Most of the people at Lamai Fitness are on short holidays.

Hello........and welcome to Samui....

The airport provide transfer service with fixed prices.

At the Raja Lipa Noi pier, there will be minivan services which will take you anywhere on the island for 200 per pax. If it's late in the evening, after 6PM, I think the price increase to 250.

There will also be taxi, but only during the day, in the evening you'll only be greeted by the minivan mafia.
Taxi from Raja pier to Lamai, will probably be around 600.

I have never seen a song thiaw at Lipa Noi pier, and I don't think they go there. But it may be my eyes which are bad...

Stay out of the bars is my advice....get a decent TV deal set up and bring an ebook reader to while away the late hours.

Or if you're rich keep fit instructors can visit your bungalow... Hehe

Welcome to Samui, TdcNinja. wai2.gif

You got two good advices in the posts above about transport from ferry pier in Lipa Noi and private fit instructors for your bungalow.

Lamai is a very cozy place and the beach is fine for some little extra excise walks; also up hills, if/when you are fit for some longer trips. There are a nice selection of restaurants in almost all kind of price levels, but my personal advise shall be: Do be aware of what you consume and especially how much, that may be just as important – or more – than fitness exercise. You can check on Internet about latest science in diet advises, some of the stuff being told for years, seems to be wrong.

If you have any questions, I’m sure the local posters will be happy to help you.

Hope you will enjoy Samui... smile.png

There were earlier reports that a tout on the ferry was telling people they needed to book with him (at a much higher price). The minibus shuttle service has been waiting at Lipa Noi every time I have been there this year.

I would recommend walking Lamai Beach every morning at sunrise, starting before the sun actually rises to beat the heat, and then going to bed early to beat the night time temptations as a good plan for you. Having a solid breakfast with some protein every morning and finishing the day with a light meal would be a good thing to try as well. If you can't overcome a craving for sweets try having one square of very dark chocolate, the bitter kind.

Best of luck in your journey to better health!
