elektrified Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Does anyone know where to go to get some documents scanned professionally and saved on a DVD as .PDF files? I need a lot of documents scanned including some large electrical circuit diagrams. I have in the past had large electrical diagrams photocopied at the large shop right across from 3 Kings Monument but haven't noticed if they do scanning as well. The documents don't need any Photoshop work; only they need to be scanned nice and straight and saved as .PDF files. It's quite a bit of work but there must be somewhere that does this near CMU or something - I would think. Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!
jij Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 perhaps you should include the size of your original documents to be scanned in this request. since most any print shop can do this job. all scans these days are done on flatbed scanners and produce professional quality if set at a high enough output settings. have the operator set the output to 300-350 dpi. you should scan according to your end use. online use 72dpi print use once again 300-350dpi. if the original print size is larger than the flatbed, then you can seam the two or more images together, but this may take a little photoshop work. why are you having so much trouble with this? - jf
elektrified Posted July 21, 2015 Author Posted July 21, 2015 Actually I need scanning at 600 dpi. Some of the documents are 8 X 24 inches;some possibly longer. FYI, I went to 2 print shops in Sansai yesterday that don't offer scanning so "most any print shop can do this job" is not the case. When I can get into the city I'll try the place at 3 Kings. Thanks.
jij Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 why do you need 600dpi. even art books are only printed at 350dpi and the extra added dpi's will just be thrown away. as mentioned earlier the extra long size will most likely need to be stitched together, so great care should be taken to make sure that they are positioned orthogonally. - jf

Thanks. Why can`t you scan these documents yourself? Most printer/scanners will do 600dpi. If the documents are larger than A4 size, than fold them in half and scan in two parts then join them together on your computer with a photo editing software. Once scanned, edited and on your hard drive, these can be converted to PDF, word, JPG and then you can print them out, save on your hard drive, a flash drive or CD and DVD and have backups. All it requires is some patience

elektrified Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Thanks for the replies. I already have a good scanner that will scan @ 600 dpi so I don't need to buy another. BJ "all it requires is some patience." Maybe you have the patience to scan 400-500 pages of documents, but I don't! If you want to come over and scan, I'll supply the beer! I'll try to get into the city tomorrow and check some printing shops near CMU, etc.
