I have got offered a good price on long time car rental from a reputable car rental company in Thailand with as the offer says "comprehensive

first class insurance with non-deductible apply in the event of non-recoverable damage or loss". After inquiry to the company about the details in the "comprehensive" insurance the reply was SDW + TP which I believe means Super Damage waiver and theft protection. Is this cover good enough and is third party liability usually covered under SDW?

Thanks

The devil is in the details. Although 3rd Party cover is usually covered under SDW, ask the company concerned via email, so you have it in writing.

No doubt they will have your CC details on file just in case they need to make a charge for 'incidentals'.

If you are renting the car long term, they may make a pre-authorisation attempt on the CC monthly to make sure the card is still active/valid.

A friend of mine had a three month rental with a major company out of Chiang Mai where he had zero deductible etc. He was involved in a minor, no fault incident and they charged his CC with 50,000 baht.

When challenged, they said it was company procedure for non-thai contracts and once the incident was resolved they would refund the money. So much for ZERO deductible. In the end, he had to file a dispute with his CC company, who reversed the charge.

Thank for answering. I don't know if its the devil, unknowledgeable staff or their unwillingness to inform the customer in detail about insurance coverage but I have sent several e-mail and called but comprehensive get repeated all the time. When I have answered that the definition and details in an comprehensive rental car insurance have great variations all over the world its like I touch a low key

subject which surprise me because this rental company operate more or less everywhere in the world.

I have now made a booking but not picked up or signed any rental documents. Below are what its included in the rental booking regarding insurance.

There are no specific details but do it look satisfying enough? I personally believe and hope that the insurance details are more detailed regarding "comprehensive and third party liability"

in the main rental contract and if not I will not sign and accept the contract.

- Comprehensive first class insurance coverage and Theft Protection Insurance with non-deductible applies in the event of non-recoverable damage from accident or loss.

- Third party liability insurance.

- 2 Additional drivers surcharge

- Unlimited kilometres

Thanks, Felt.
