Noticed this yesterday already but could not believe my eyes, so confirmed it today: Icon bar in Rawai is gone, totally demolished. Anybody knows what happened?

I don't think they made any profit in recent times. Even bars in Laguna (Rawai) are operating at a loss this year. Icon used to be very popular but some nasty incidents plus the expansion of Laguna hurt them a lot. So I am not surprised they closed down.

And regarding demolishment: I guess the land owner thinks he can make better use of it.

But as always some other things might have played into it.

This year we will see a lot of businesses closing down in Rawai/Naiharn. Only few are operating with a profit. Many are just trying to hold out and see if the coming high season can cut their losses but I think most will be disappointed and close after that.

Thanks, but those answers are rather generic. Anybody have any specific information on Icon?

I guess not. Some people just aren't nosy enough to stop and ask.

If business was good it would still be there. Nobody knocks down a successful business.

Some people don't need to ask because they know the answer. I don't, hence the question, and apparently neither do you, despite the answers.

If people think they can make more money with a different business setup they might knock their existing (successful) business down. I did see some (small) improvements going on there the last few months, so I get the impression this knock down was not really scheduled well in advance.

Why don't you go and ask the owner instead of waiting for someone else to do it?

It's obvious the place wasn't profitable any more so it's being converted to something that may be more successful. What else do you need to know?

The owner Bob was an (fill in the blank) so good riddance. His hotel next to it is still standing unfortunately.

Yeah he wasnt popular at all. I can't share details on some of the dastardly deeds but he sure has some enemies.

cheesy.gif GOM isn't !

Saw ol boy Bob sitting on the back of a pickup across the street when the place was about half demolished. I asked "complete refab huh"? Bob, not a lot for words, nodded. "Is the remake going to be a club?" , again nod as in affirmative.

I don't want anybody to go and ask, I'm just hoping (and more or less expecting) that somebody here is a more or less regular there or knows the owner and knows what happened exactly in stead of the generic information (see that some specifics are coming now, thanks for that) and what is going to happen there.
