He played deputy Barney Fife opposite "sheriff" Andy Griffith in the TV show "Mayberry, R.F.D.". Andy Griffith played sheriff Andy Taylor. RFD stands for "rural free delivery" from the days when it was difficult and expensive to deliver a letter by post to remote places in the US.
