3G/4G router

Featured Replies

Since I'm looking to purchase a new 4G aircard, which probably will not be supported by my Intellinet N300 3G router and which I think also only supports 3G speed up to 3.5 Mbps or so, I will buy a new router as well.

The only one I can find at reasonable price in Thailand is a D-link DWR-116.

http://www.dlink.com/uk/en/support/product/dwr-116-wireless-n300-multi-wan-router

Anyone experience with this router or has a better suggestion for about the same price?

It's 1390 Baht on Lazada.

I have the 112 which is pretty much the same thing without the wifi ant. It works fine - covers whole house and across the yard to other building when set by the window. I am sure with ant it must cover better then mine.

As far as the air card I run a old true 3g aircard with dtac trinet sim and it will run as high as 21mbps if you can find a file source that will provide it - I have seen up to 16mbps from time to time.

My wifi side is a bit slow always 50-60mbps max.

1390 is cheaper then mine was years ago - I think it was 1490 at the time.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not so much concerned about the wifi because I have Ethernet throughout the house, and I have a few WIFI routers around the place as well that are configured as wireless access points, and that is where my worries are.

I had 2 D-link DIR 619 initially, now only one as I smashed one out of anger, because I need to reboot them every so many days as they lose their wireless connection. I had one wireless camera attached to one of them. After a week or so it is even impossible to remotely log in to reboot, however all the lights are still flashing and the Ethernet part still works, and I have to get the stepladder out to reboot them manually.

I wouldn't want to have a 3G router which I have to reboot every so often.

Never had to reboot this 112 - pretty simple and solid for several years now and I have it on 24/7, never had any problem with connecting to it at all.

tp-link and zte have aircard supported mini routers where you can plug supported(!) usb 4g aircard.

Or, you can buy standalone device that has a battery and distributes 4g/3g via wifi (called mifi)

Thanks for the link, but they don't have really much on offer.

I was just considering such a MIFI called ZTE MF90 which actually fulfills all my needs.

http://www.ztedevice.com/product/Mobile_Hotspot/6712c639-c861-412b-8f4d-db6836995e3d.html

It can be had on Ebay for ~1600 Baht in unlocked version. I understand that if I add a 120 Baht mini usb to Ethernet adapter to it, that I can plug it in straight into any LAN port in my house and connect to it from PC or android box from any other LAN port in the house.

Is that correct?

If so that would of course save me the cost of buying router and aircard.

Found that InvadeIT has the D-link even cheaper at 1250 Baht, but they also had a 300N 4G router from TP-link TL-MR3420 at 1290 Baht.

Would TP link be a better choice over D-link quality wise?

In the TP link compatibility list theZTE MF90 doesn't show, where it does show in the D-link list, would this be a risk?

I only have experience with the one I have. If you are close enough to a jib, BannaIT or what ever they can sometimes fire one up and test it.

Since I'm looking to purchase a new 4G aircard

Have you purchased this yet? If so, make/model?

I'd look for a router which is known (both in spec/approved by the router manufacturer, and by someone posting in a related forum).

I've run in to many problems with USB aircards interworking with 3G-capable routers, in fall-back applications.

Looking for a router independent of the aircard may be a waste of time?

I'm considering the ZTE MF90 and as an alternative the ZTE MF821, but haven't purchased yet.

The D-link supports the MF90 where the TP link doesn't accoprding to the list I can find, but I have been told by supplier that TP link product is superior to D-link.

I have now contacted TP link international support center and waiting their answer.
