Thanks for all the extra advise , I am sure it will help others.....

How do you set up a D drive on a computer you are using ?

and do you just copy the photo file to the D drive ?

it would be nice to have them 2 places on the hard drive , but seperated so they will not both get attacked....

Sometimes you are not on-line or a real slow connection if you had to recover from the cloud

No problem..can get them anytime.

i use three clouds..windows one, google drive and dropbox..easy to share.

select as many as can, and slide them over to d drive..copy..

2 copies on dvd's are standard practice..right, neversure?

I stopped using DVD's for backups a long time ago because they just aren't practical. They read/write too slow and don't hold enough data. They also require extra steps.

I use only the cloud and/or separate HDD's. I have one HDD hidden from casual observation and it is a wireless unit. That's paranoia in case someone should rob me. The cloud is also good for that. There is also the possibility of a house fire which also makes the cloud a viable option. When I first worked in an enterprise environment we were taking backups home with us every night in case of fire. Later we switched to what you would call a Wide Area Network (WAN) and could use different buildings even on different campuses for backups.

I may be the most OCD backup person on here because I lost all of my data including personal and family photos once and vowed it would never happen again. I never got them back, either and I still wish I had them.

Cheers.
